This driveway in my ‘hood is off an alley, and a bit hidden. It was the Saab 900 Turbo Convertible that attracted me to it. But that long line of letters on the back of the ML caught my eye. Hmm…
Aha! The ultra-rare Unibog version, and an XS at that! Now I feel fulfilled.
My inspection garage guy has one of those Saabs sitting at his premises he tells me that it now runs though it doesnt ever seem to move far its now parked behind one of his Marlins outside his paint shop all of 30ft from where its sat for years, it seems to be a common theme with Saabs here often seen, rarely seen driving. I havent seen that actual model of Mercedes the rare Unibog definitely a catch.
I think it’s a Unibog X5 not XS. It’s like a fancy Cadillac BMW fusion thing without the T in the middle. At least it’s a later but still pre-mid-cycle refresh 320 with the painted bumpers.
The Saab is the best Saab color of that generation’s Cabrio. Shame it seems to have a leaky top and likely isn’t being used what with all that rain you all have there.
A decent pairing for an alley.
I would imagine what killed the Saab was the retraction mechanism for the canvas top. The daughter of a guy at work had a one. Dad would order parts on line and do the work himself at one-tenth the price of the dealership.
Once she was married, Dad said it was now the new hubby’s problem to fix. It was traded in within a year of the honeymoon.
I have a ’91 Saab 900S convertible with almost 200,000miles on it. It’s my everyday car, and although it needs the occasional repair, it’s still an economically viable transportation mode.
Great looking, fun to drive (standard shift) and an attention grabber as well.
Love it,
If the guy takes the Mercedes to a drive-in restaurant, will he be eating in XS?
Do they say to the burger “I need you tonight!”
A neighbor of mine had a black 900 Turbo convertible. He kept clean (at least as clean he could for a year-round daily driver in Minnesota) and had the top down every chance he had, including some sunny days in the middle of winter. 🙂
Unfortunately, it was totaled in an accident under somewhat suspicious circumstances but it was a lovely car.
