This ol’ and fully loaded Volvo wagon has been around, especially in recent times. According to the years listed on the windshield, it’s an experienced Carbage Run participant.
Under its hood, Volvo’s inline-five, naturally aspirated 2,435 cc-10v engine with a maximum power output of 144 DIN-hp. When it rolled off the production line, anyway.
A full-width mud flap, just like on many full-size Volvo tractors. Appropriate, as I caught the wagon in a truck show’s parking lot. You can google-translate the slogans on the hatch. Or fifth door, whatever you prefer.
The door stickers say that driving the 2024 England & Wales summer tour was Kermit’s most recent achievement.
And now he seems to be exhausted, depressed, and desperate at the same time.

Awesome.
I think the closest thing we have to the cabbage run here in the States is the 24 hours of lemons rally’s
https://24hoursoflemons.com/lemons-rally/
I have yet to participate in one, but I would sure like to.
I might like to take along my ’79 Duster or the ’62 Valiant
It would do just fine! On a related note, there’s plenty of classic Americana in the picture that Eric posted below.
From the posted description the Carbage Run is more like a Gambler 500 than anything else. Similar objectives of driving a cheap car, having fun and collecting trash.
Thanks for posting this and for introducing me to the Cabbage Run. Looking at their photos, it looks like a blast. Particularly with all of the wagons, and Volvos in particular. I will say that most of those “pieces of junk” look to be in far better shape than anything that age I’d expect to see on roads here in the US.
Carbage. As in car + (gar)bage. Yes, they really gave the name of the event some thought!
The lesser-known ‘cabbage run’ is strictly for vegetable growers, vegetarians and vegans.
OK, well that makes a bit more sense. Doh!
Still, most of those cars participating in the Carbage don’t look like junk to me. The whole event looks like a lot of fun.
Wow – what a find! In looking up information on the Carbage Run, I was amazed at how big it is… about 1,000 vehicles. And judging by the aerial photo below, Kermit here certainly isn’t among the most outrageous entries.
1/3 Kermit, 1/3 Jurassic Park and 1/3 Ghost Busters with that eye searing green topped off with all those auxillary lights make for a very fun wagon. Having participated in a few Adopt-A-Highway cleanings with my employer and seeing all manner of grossness from disrespectful motorists I would prefer a trailer with fine mesh tarpaulin. Oh and a pair of extra, extra thick rubber gloves that stay in the trailer.
‘1/3 Kermit, 1/3 Jurassic Park and 1/3 Ghost Busters’
That about wraps it up perfectly!
