This is one of my better finds in Port Orford: A Toyota Echo (Yaris) apparently converted into a very compact motor home. As it was presently occupied, I unfortunately was not able to get a better look, especially inside. Too bad.

I wouldn’t be caught dead in that roach
Wow! You’d better be on good terms with whomever you’re camping with (I’m assuming there’s two in there with the position of the floating had visible in the picture, but can’t be sure), as those are some fairly tight quarters. Also interesting to see the outline of the “sewn up” rear door along with its handle.
One thing that gets me on quite a few homebrew vehicles, is how so many of them don’t get the lighting correct when they replace stock lamps with other components… usually stuff designed for trailers and commercial trucks. Those rear turn signals appear to be just clearance/marker lights, which are probably less than 1/15 the brightness of the factory turn signals they replaced. And no reverse lights visible either… but bonus points for including a rear side marker, though I can’t tell if it has a built-in reflector.
A nice idea for a night or two away from home, but I really think this needs a yellow or reflective stripe down the side to improve its visibility to other motorists. This just blends right into the forest.
I think that’s camping for one and not two. At least, I hope…
Make camping fun with a rivet gun!
Yikes. It’s all one giant (or actually not so giant, and that’s a problem) blind spot.
I like green, and I like roll your own. But this pushes the bounds on both of those concepts.
That’d be interesting to see the inside of. The rear window looks to still be in place so not really more headroom in back or anything – with the sides faired in near the top it’d be interesting to see the drainage solution for those healing rains. And those look like storage lockers on the back, both of them, with the rear bodywork extended to fair them in. Idaho plates though, he seems to be a moderate distance away from home, so yeah, probably does sleep in there.
Its a bit small even with the extensions, probably fine for overnighting on road trips but not for permanent habitation.
I’m thinking this Echo is more a hybrid of wonderment and not so much a camper. It has a rather nicely riveted homegrown speedtail likely for hypermiling or storage. The upper and lower storage chests could very well hold camping gear. What’s throwing me is how the rear glass/ fiberglass follows the rear window original downward slope. Great find nevertheless. 👍
Bangle butt appliance. And it needs a continental kit.
There was an old lady who lived in a duck.
She had a lot of kids.
