I’ve shown you dozens of “The Painted Cars of Eugene” over the years. But this is the first time I’ve caught one in the act of being painted, on top of Skinner Butte, no less.
Here’s the view from the Butte in the background. It’s Celica that’s getting the treatment, and a generation (sixth) that has rather fallen off the radar. Haven’t seen or noticed one in some time.
Their dog was eyeing my dog, but in a polite manner.
Should we assume the vehicle owner gave his permission? Not a Banksy thing, right?
Yes, assume that. It seems pretty self-evident, given that the car’s rear hatch was open and that there is a dog in there.
They sure look like they’re having fun, her smile is a thousand watts. I’ve never seen it done before – are they using ink pens? Love the Gator and the fact their dog was included.
Sweet merciful crap! My car!!!
The lady apparently decided to place lipstick on the “philtrum” (I had to look up what that area is called) rather than give the car a broad, gaping smile. Those look like dry-erase markers; makes you wonder if they spirited somebody’s car out of town to decorate it temporarily as a joke. Looks like there’s been some sort of horseplay on the driver’s side roof, too.
“Lazar for mayor.” I haven’t seen one of those in a while!
That looks like it would be fun to do.
You’d wear out so many markers with that much space to fill.
Probably went through two just coloring in the hair.
This is wonderful and timely too ~ just the other day I was wondering where all the art cars went….

We did that to my college room mate’s Beetle in 1989 or so since he was going to have it repainted in the summer. FWIW that car and my Econ professor’s 78 convertible were probably the only daily driver Beetles on campus with intact and functional heater boxes.
