Well that is where the traction battery is which I’d rather not try to engineer the new mounting, cooling and wiring for. The house battery is back there too but no qualms about moving that one around.
The bed is high enough for the traction battery to still be under there. It looks like a runner to me, not just an attention-getter like this poor Saab.
Travis told me that the convertible isn’t moving, though Atomic re-opens in the old Line-Up Shop digs on 102nd and Glisan next week. The new property owner wants to keep the ‘vert and geocache.
Well if youre gonna go this far with it, the smart move would be to scrap/sell the batteries/electronics and put some kind of boosted 4 banger in there. Wont help with traction in hauling a load but itll make it a LOT more fun.
Some small businesses use odd cars as attention-getters. There’s one in our town which has a Pacer, while Truly Nolen has a large collection of old cars they place at random spots around town. Better than a billboard ad, I’d say.
I can think of lots of bad things involving traction if you have much of a load. Not so bad till you add the tag wheels. Of course who really knows what is under the skin.
Im pretty sure Ive seen that exact car around. Looks like an amateur hack job at best. The rear doors aren’t even obscured. And with questionable weather protection and a huge battery/wiring back there…this looks like a death trap with bad news written all over it.
Well lets say you had a rear ended, totaled out, Prius and a desperate need for a parts hauler…
I’d be pretty interested in the story behind that if it’s operational, which I kind of doubt. No interest in driving it though.
Somewhere in Japan, a Toyota aerodynamics engineer is throwing things at his computer screen.
Ha! +1
Hey, if that means Toyota engineers read CC, then maybe the next gen Prius might have some hints of Earl or Shinoda or Exner.
What is back there on a Prius, anyway, that can’t be moved to the back of the “cab?”

Looks like you took that photo at Atomic Auto!
Indeed.

I think that the owner of this vehicle is trying to prove something. I just don’t know what.
We covered a real Prius ute I spotted some years back.

Cool catch indeed!
Curiosity hath no bounds…..
