In recognition of Independence Day, we’re taking the day off. But I do feel like sharing with you this Model A Speedster. Needless to say, the Ford Model T and A are about as all-American as it can get for a car, and this speedster embodies it in the most elemental manner.
I’m just posting pictures of this car, as it’s pretty self explanatory. It has a high compression head and a twin carb manifold as well as an exhaust cut-out. At the end is a video of it kicking up some gravel as it peels out and accelerates down the road. I covet this speedster.
Happy Independence Day. The rest of our posts are all re-runs with an American theme.
Fits the mood of the day, and CC, to a “T”.
Happy USA Independence Day, ……and a belated Canada Day (July 1st, Canada’s 151st birthday). Happy birthday to both!
And a Happy Independence Day to you as well, Paul!
Beautiful car. I’m marveling over the brass strips used as spark plug “wires.”
Genuine parts, no need for replacement HT leads ever
A fabulous car! It reminds me of the Model T speedster I came across recently. Pure America.
Good catch Jim. That speedster is one of the regulars over at Newport IN. hill climb event each fall.
Thanks Rich. I saw the car in Noblesville. The owner was a really friendly fellow who started it up to demonstrate the exhaust whistle. He even offered to let me get behind the wheel, but I let my son have that honor. He is 6’6″ and was amazed at how much leg room he had.
Those flying straps for plug wires are ELEGANT. No chance of shorting or arcing in all that open space, so might as well skip the insulation.
Desirable in every possible way.
And clearly quite a goer.
Superb.
I got a ride this morning in a ’24 coupe. Downright luxurious for a T, roll up windows and everything.
I guess no air bags, huh? Deal killer for me.
? Happy 4th!
Happy Independence Day!
I love it! Happy Independence Day!
Someone sure loves working with wood!
Looks great, and the wood is a real stand out feature.
Enjoy your day!
Modern woodwork on old cars, whether woody wagons or speedsters, usually spoils the effect by using modern transparent urethane finish. Old varnish turned dark quickly.
Happy 4th of July! But I do feel like being a bit curmudgeonly and pedantic, and suggest that viewing the Ford Model T and A as “All-American as you can get” is a little one-sided, since these cars were in fact built in many countries. In that regard they (especially the A) could be considered the first global car platform. I’d suggest the Corvette as the poster-child for All-American-ness, if you set aside Zora Arkus-Duntov ‘s background. Though I do think that a Model A or T Speedster is way more cool.
I’d like to think that ZAD’s background makes the Corvette MORE American.
Good point!
Love it, one of the best cars Henry ever came out with and still fairly common even now.
