dman-x posted a shot of this Ford internment camp at the Cohort. But what’s the story with that black Mark III in front? I’ve never seen one with that roof treatment before: an opera window, but no regular side rear window. A relic of the ’70s Super Fly era? I see a wide whitewall, too. Too bad there’s no shot of its front end–I suspect it’s had a face lift.
Cohort Outtake: Ford Graveyard, But What’s Up With That Mark III In Front?

I hope nobody minds me staking a claim on that Unibody F100 off to the side.
A 300/5 speed combo would make that a nice cruiser.
I once had a boss with a car that I remember like that. 460 and (I think) a C6. Certainly would step out but thirsty as could be.
I’m not at all certain that it’s really a Mark with that roof…….no spare tire hump in back, and doesn’t seem to match the rear fender “hips” of either of the two Marks there. And, just the peak at the interior doesn’t look right to be a Mark. I’m wondering if the roof doesn’t belong to a tarted up 1970-1971 TBird….maybe a ’71 Landau? I DO recall seeing added in opera windows on them after the 1972 Mark came out with them………
Looks a lot like an Eldorado roof and rear quarter panel, perhaps a 1971, but, that’s only an opinion.
Growing up in the ’70s, I recall that people with the means and metal fabrication skills did all sorts of things to all sorts of cars. From just this one picture I am inclined to agree with Northshorerealtr’s assessment that it’s a T-bird of some sort that was customized along the way.
It’s definitely a 69 Mark III. Note the windshield wipers, the steering wheel and the seat pattern. Not a T-Bird with the bright work on the knife edge fenders. The lack of a hump is odd…….trunk is sprung and what’s that boxy thing between it and the 62 T-Bird? Hell, the whole back end could be bashed in for all we know.
If you click on the picture, you can see the spare tire hump is there. The bottom half of a bucket seat is obscuring most of it. So yep, it’s a Mark III.
Those other guys had me worried there…
Looks like a Town Coupe to me.
I think its a town Coupe as Well.
I think The III and the IV to the left are in Diamond Green- Pastel Green…Looked So Good With White, Reminded of Day glow Plastic.
shouldn’t the window wipers be hidden if its a town coupe?
What’s with the ambulance behind the Bullet Bird?
Looks like a ’60s International travelall to me. That’d have to be the roughest riding ambulance ever if it is.
Even though I was a Ford guy first my eyes were imediatly drawn to the International Ambulance. Wish there was a better picture of it to see if it is one of the factory “stretch” jobs. The trick was that instead of stretcheing the frame they used a frame from a Travelette (crew cab) with the 8′ bed. That frame had a 149″ WB compared to the 119″ of the Travelall. That matches the length of the back doors of the Travelall and Travelette meaning it could use the door glass and door skins.
Still counting the pixels.
Only Obbop… (but thank goodness for him.) 😉
Gotta love the guy.
I had to stand on tiptoe to see over the fence to get that shot and couldn’t see the front of (what I thought was a normal Mark) in the picture. If I were more of a Brougham-ologist I might have noticed something awry. Check out my other pictures from Ely, Nevada last week on CC Cohort … all were taken within about a 2 block area, 1-2 blocks off US 50 in the heart of town. There are some well-preserved gems in that town’s back streets and yards, including an IH pickup of similar vintage as the ambulance. The vehicles I actually saw being driven were more of the F250 and Chevy 2500 4wd Diesel variety.
Thanks for the shots you got. I’m happy with the “Feminine” F Series.
The ambulance was pretty far back but I don’t think it was any longer than a normal Travelall.
It looks like an aftermarket job by one of the various pimpmobile producers of the 70’s — Wisco, Moloney, Universal Coach, Custom Craft, Dunham. I can’t narrow it down, because the Cadillacs built by these guys seem to be much better documented — probably because there were more of them.
What car is between the suspect Mark III and the Travelall?
Thunderbird, of the Bullet Bird, 61-3, era.
63 T-Bird…..note chrome hash marks on the door.
I like the UTE’s also!! Love 61-63’s. 62 is my favorite year.
