Cohort poster Joseph Dennis titled this fab shot “Like Slot Cars at Christmas”. He says it was an accidental pairing, as he was getting ready to shoot the Elky, the Grand Prix rolled into the shot behind it. It’s in Downtown Chicago, and if it weren’t for the GMC SUV in the edge of the shot, one would think it was suddenly 1976.
Cohort Outtake: Like Slot Cars At Christmas

Yep, no jumbo wheels on those two.
Judging from the front ends, I’d have to say the the GP is a ’76 / ’77, and the Elky is a ’68 or ’69.
I’d love to know whether they’re local survivors, or transplants from a dry rust-free region.
Neither of those buildings besmirched the Magnificent Mile in 1976 either…
Nice lovely pairing of vehicles.
Great photo too
There needs to be an Olds Ninety-Eight Regency with its Tiffany clock parked outside the Tiffany’s.
Nicely done!
Wow. What timing indeed, what lucky happenstance!
Great photo.
Neat photo. Can’t tell if it’s early morning or dusk but that ’69 El Camino sure looks happy. The side marker and running lights appear to be twinkling.
I also like the sense of motion in the shot. It’s like something you would see in the opening credits of The Bob Newhart Show.
I priced a slot car track for my nephew last Christmas……YIKES!! Over $100.00.
Great picture. This may have already been discussed at some point (if so, forgive me, I’m new here)- but how cool would it be to make an annual calendar using photos from curbside classic sightings? The editors could pick 12 photographs sighted from the past year and put them into a virtual calendar for the new year. Use it for fundraising on the web site, set a price and be able to print it out from your printer. Such an image as this would be a perfect candidate.
