I took this photo in the back lot of an American diner here in Regensburg. Naturally this is a good spot to find American cars, I need to check it out more often. There was also a humongous Dodge Ram somehow squeezed in there, and a Corvette circling to find a spot. US cars always look way out of proportion over here, it’s ridiculous.
Lived in Florence Italy for a while and occasionally an American car would appear from up North, usually Holland. Ridiculous is says it all. Even the occasional Volvo 245’s looked out of place. They looked like a full sized Pontiac in Boston next to Chevy II’s.
Yes, yes, yes!! White-letter tires most certainly DO NOT belong on a Cadillac. I could go for blackwalls instead of the oft-seen whitewalls, but not these. Nope. Not right a ‘tall.
There’s even a Fiat Panda 4×4. The Italians living in rural areas love them, that mini-SUV can climb the steepest slopes and can make the tightest turns.
I use to drive a Olds 88 in Frankfurt in the ’60’s and never had any trouble parking it. But at time Mercedes where much smaller, BMWs were mostly 2002, and Audi was mostly non exsistent.
White wall tires are nearing extinction. The 14″ sizes that were standard on large American cars (225 75/14 etc.) are only available through specialty stores such as C9oker tires (ask me how I know…) Back in the day, black walls were grouped with dog dish hub caps, which was considered to be the “low cost/economical” option (meaning that you were cheap!) I never dreamed that there would be a problem getting my size tires…raised white letters are for muscle cars! On a ’50’s Cadillac?!? SACRILEGE!! Those cars were designed to look GOOD with whitewalls! The first car that I had black walls on and liked them, was my 1989 Honda Accord!
That’s fantsastic, with the little yellow Panda being squeezed along side it, this shot reminds me of the old Silent Night Hippo & Duckling logo (with the Caddie being the Hippo – obv.)
(laughs)

“Buxom” Paul, or “Rubenesque”?
Either way, I LOVE a curvy American gal! Pretty in pink and such a winning smile she has!
Now THAT is an American car! But please, Mr. Cadillac owner, in the future, let’s see a little pride in your parking job. 🙁
How about those RWL tires? Bigger sin than black wall tires on a vintage American luxury car? Discuss.
Personally the only vehicles I like whitewalls on is American luxury cars with wheelbases well in excess of 100 inches.
+1 That’s embarrassingly gauche

If the door was opened into the side of that Fiat, it would knock the poor little thing on its side.
Is that thing next to it a Fiat Multipla?
Fiat Panda.
Thanks!

How about this Caddy vs Mini ?

Here’s a whole collection of “size matters”:

These California parking spaces are a bit tight too….
“Uh, yeah, I think my 69 Cadillac is a compact . . . ” Sheesh – idiots.
Hey, all the normal spots were taken and there’s 10 empty compact spots at the back of the lot. They gave me no choice!
The Cadillac almost fits! If the owner had backed in, it would fit that spot.

I always thought “Truck Nutz” were the stupid macho antithesis to this car. Because this car has breasts. Exquisite breasts.
“No, no, your truck is interesting though, really. I’m as interested in looking at it as I am in looking at your balls.”
(sorry, a little blue for CC.)
Nice Dagmars!
Hemmings story about Cadillac’s “Dagmar” bumpers of the 1950s, and the origin of their nickname:

Nice juxtaposition there, though if it were me, I’d take that little Panda next to it, thanks. 🙂
IMHO this is one of the most beautiful cars that has ever existed. Yes, I like it. Especially compared to the F-10
BWAH!
