There’s tons of recent postings at the CC Cohort, way more than I have time to write up here, but this shot of a ’58 Corvette shot on a busy NYC street by formulanyc did grab my attention. There’s something about old cars in crowded urban settings that really makes them stand out. As well as look a bit vulnerable.
The overly-busy ’58 is not my favorite C1 year (that would be 1957), but it certainly does stand out from the crowd.
Beautiful! ’58-59 are my favorite Vettes of all. Quad headlights with chrome surrounds, side scallops with a complimentary color, and taillights on the fenders, before it adopted the Stingray rear end with its non-descript round taillights.
For 59 they removed the chrome strips running down the trunklid, as seen on this car. The strips added enough weight that the trunklid tended to not stay open. Also, there are fake louvers on the hood that were removed for ’59.
I am not sure I would want to take on those NYC cabs with a 58 Vette. I agree, it certainly stands out in those surroundings.
For a quick “point and shoot” image, that first shot is very artful.
I haven’t seen anything too rare since moving to NYC, except a Merkur XR4ti in Inwood!
No 14th ave. in Manhattan anyway; could be 14th st…..
I’ve rambled the streets and avenues of NY to know that, but it didn’t make it all the way to my fingers.
Third time’s a charm: it’s Greenwich Avenue. I recognize the Equinox gym on the corner (W 12th St).
I agree on ’57 being the best C1 (and my 2nd favorite Vette ever), but this one is still way up there on my list. I wish I could trade places with whatever lucky bastard owns this beauty… put the top down and cruise through the Village on a warm summer night, hearing the small-block burble resonating off the cobblestones between brick canyons of buildings mixing with the loud conversations and music pouring out of the bars, trying not to wreck the car staring at all the beautiful, scantily clad women on the street, then putting one of them in the passenger seat, laying rubber everywhere turning onto the West Side Highway and cruising off into the darkness. That would be a pretty acceptable life to have!
Well said, brother.
I’ll take your word for it. The poster said 14th…
np….I prefer the ’56 Vette myself, but would not turn down a ’58 if offered!!
Its identical twin roams here its plate is 58 Vette, I;d take it home, feeding it could be a problem though.
That Grey Jetta with ETJ #### plates is probably from Broome County. I got ETJ 9272 plates in August 09 which were from the DMV in Bingo Land even though I do not live in Broome County.
Ultimate CC Effect: I had never seen this car before this article ran, but I’ve now seen it THREE times since. The same exact car, not just an identical ’58 Corvette.
