Mu old friend paulvaranasi has just posted some new shots at the Cohort, including two of these unidentified mystery vehicles. I’m quite sure the one in front is a late-’50s custom, but what really intrigues me is that motorhome–now that is truly awesome. Sadly, no further information. What a rig….
The car is badged “the Marquis”. I can see why Paul was intrigued, since it looks rather a lot like one of his photoshops (seen below).
Found the car. It started life as a 56 Ford, heavily customized by Bill Cushenberry. Finished in 1962. Restoration was finished in 2000.

The motorhomes, blehhh. But the Marquis, and now the name “Bill Cushenberry”, bring back great memories of this type of car being pretty well-known by kids in the ’60’s, from Hot Rod magazine and AMT 3-1, Monogram and Revell model kits. Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, of course, but also Darryl Starbird, Gene Winfield. I always liked Starbird’s bubble tops, and notice that the Buick-like fins were also used here: http://cartopia.us/PREDICTA_Orig_BoxtopW.jpg
BigOld beat me to it. The Marquis is based on a 1956 Ford Victoria.
There’s definitely some Cadillac in that motor home. Maybe A FWD Eldorado based custom like those GMC motor homes with the Toronado powertrains?
I was thinking the same thing. From what we can see, it looks to have Cadillac hubcaps, front bumper and taillights.
’68 Caddy rear bumper too.
The motorhome is the Star Streak II
Good god, what a monster. Yes, it’s Eldo-based.
Is that a light bar between the headlights? Or maybe it’s a driver-controlled scrolling text display?
OMG…that is insane. Must have!
You should see the optional Lido deck…..
(Jaw drops to floor)…crickets…
Yeah, it’s a destination board. Ordinarily it says WRONG BUS.
Gotta say, from the outside, this is the coolest RV I’ve ever seen. My attention is drawn to the blue accents at the top, front. Just decorative plastic? Or, dare I ask, lights?
Where are these? What museum?
That is the California Automobile Museum in Sacramento. I was there in August and saw those two vehicles as well as the rest of the collection. They usually have special exhibits rotating in and out and then some permanent collection. Also they have some cars for sale. Worth a visit if you are in the general area.
I worked for them one summer. cool place.
Its that jazzy new car museum in Sacramento California.
That motorhome is amazing. It reminds me of the ’62 Buick based RV we featured on CC some time ago.
That is one crazy motorhome, sort of like a space ship forced to become land based.
Or a wheeled houseboat.
Thats very, very good. Its a road going houseboat. A chaise lounge and an umbrella would not look out of place on the roof.
That awesome motorhome is in Indiana at the RV/MH Hall of Fame. Here is what the sign reads that is in front of it:
Star Streak II
This is the second of two custom, all aluminum motorhomes built by Paul Jones of Cape Coral, Fl.
Built in 1988 using a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Chassis and a 1976 Olds Toronado 455 cu, in. engine. It was designed and built specifically to fit in a standard residential garage door. Length 270 inches, weight 5400 pounds, height 83 inches.
It is a gift from Paul and Maureen Jones family.
The original Star Streak was based on a 1971 Cadillac and looks very similar.
It appears that the original picture for this article is of the original Star Streak (look at the front marker lights), the picture MikePDX posted is of the Star Streak II.
The RV looks like a Wagon Queen Family Truckster for the next Vacation movie.
+1
If there’s room for my ’55 TV, Xbox and PC, then I have found my new home!!! 🙂
