Last year, I stumbled into Henry Hund’s 2012 US Cars & Girls Calendar from Germany. Then the other day he contacted me to tell me that the 2013 Calendar is ready, and would I like to share it with our readers too? Certainly! From what I gather, Henry does this as a sideline, and he’s not really trying to push sales from the US due to shipping costs from Germany. Would folks buy this if we shipped from the US? Is anybody still using paper calendars? How about a CC Calendar? Hmm. So here it is, in the free digital version; everything wants to be free, including a couple of things in this picture.
Curveside Classics: US Cars & Girls Kalender 2013

Nice. Not really my type, but nice.
“DYNFLO” on a Falcon???
Title typo, is it Kalender or Calendar?
Am I straddling two languages again? Let’s hop on the German side of the fence.
That December photo is fabulous.
Oh, and I may be the only guy who still buys a page-a-day calender for my desk. I think a CC version would be cool. Of course, I always wait until after Christmas and buy them on sale. But a CC calendar would be a lot better than the Dilbert one I have been looking at all year (I got to the bookstore later than usual last year and the selection was pretty thin.)
That’s a super good idea! We could easily self-publish on Lulu. Proceeds could go towards Paul’s expenses to host this site. I’ve seen this sort of Lulu publishing done by other amateur sites. You just put a little Lulu gadget on the home page that takes you to where you can get one. We’d have to make sure to clear publication rights with each photographer, which should be trivial amongst ourselves.
Sounds like fun, I sure want a couple.
Lulu.com even has a specific page for car calendars.
“It’s easy to make your own Cars calendar online using your digital photos or images. Make a Cars calendar fast and affordably with Lulu using our free online Studio tool. Choose high quality premium or standard calendars, upload or import your Cars photos or images and select a professionally designed theme to create a high quality Cars custom color printed calendar. Order your own copies, or publish and sell your Cars calendar on Lulu.com.”
Actually, one like this is more along the lines I had thought of.

That is what you said isn’t it. We have such fabulous photography here (I’m thinking of a certain Chrysler piece yesterday and hundreds of other CCs), a monthly photo calendar jumped into my mind. That’s what I ordinarily have in my office, now that my daily office calendar is mostly defined by others using Outlook. I’d use a monthly at home too.
365 pages of CC would be great. Lots more work.
These “tatted up” Women (and Men too I guess, but don’t seem to care as much) should consider if they will like that look 40+ years from now, just saying 🙂
Given the number of people who have tattoos at this point, anyone concerned with how their tatts will age will at least have the consolation of not being alone in that.
They can also commiserate about all the young people mocking them because their tattoos aren’t animated.
After a few years, more than a few pounds and the cumulative effects of gravity, some of them will be animated 🙂
Check out the work of Roy Varga for some stateside modern pinup work. His site is under construction but you can find his pictures other places.
The featured photos are great, although some of those beautiful women are anachronistically skinny! More saltine than cheesecake. 🙂
My brother-in-law quoted that he didn’t go to the grocery store to buy bones.
Call me Bob Bummer but I just don’t find these shots flattering. Women can be portrayed as the beauties they are without being pictured spread-eagle, nearly naked, tatooed-up, or looking otherwise trampy.
Plus, they block my view of the rest of the car. Reminds me of those lowrider magazines.
I would definitely buy a CC calendar or two or three. It would help encourage those of us who occasionally contribute to the Cohort to step up our game a bit creatively.
Step one: Accept nominations. Step two: Panel of judges narrows down the list. Step two: Voting via surveymoney or something similar chooses the final 12. Step three: Sell the calendars via Lulu or somewhere similar.
The only photo I consider in horrible taste is the tatooed guy. The rest for the most part are quite classy, in my opinion. My first vote is the Edsel girl. I’m trying to think what celebrity she reminds me of. Miss Impala is my runner up.
As far as the cars go, the 68 Calais first, then the 59 Coupe Deville.
I just can’t place who the Edsel girl looks like.
I beg to differ – Ms. March’s spreadeagle pose does her no favors and I’m far from a prude. Love that 59 Caddy . I think the 2011 kalendar had better quality cars and photography, imo.
You know, we could offer poster prints of some of our cars.
Now that I have my new camera, I am hoping to step my game up a bit in the photography department…
I love all of them, but my Dad would kick your a$$ for kneeling on the convertible boot of his Mustang. (Come to think of it, if it was mine I’d kick your a$$ too.)
“Lincoln – what can pink do for you?”
I like it, but the girls do look excessively German!
Those German girls are okay-looking, but a bit too tarted-up for my taste. Regarding the proposed CC calendar, keep in mind that statistics clearly show that women make the majority of calendar purchases. Therefore, if you want to turn this into a money-making enterprise, you might want to make it the “Men Of Curbside Classics” calendar, with staff members in hunky beefcake poses next to their favorite rides.
You must be kidding
Of course I am. But all kidding aside, the idea of a CC Calendar is a good one.
Where are the cars?
Hi Paul and Curbesite Classic Community,
there a lot of comments below my calendar pics. Now I know it’s not for the american taste. The critical comments are show they don’t like German Girls and also the Tattoos. We have in Europe a big community who live this style. These Rockabilly people have Tattoss and drive these old American cars and live the 50ies lifestyle. I can also read the photographical quality is not important and the don’t like scenes where I must a litte bit think about. I had not think that a get this critic but it helps me a lot.
If you will help me maybe I could create a american calendar 🙂
Thanks for the honest comments and all the best Henry
Henry, those girls are beautiful. Never been to your fine country, but I have some German heritage on my mother’s side of the family.
Got to get rid of the hillbilly guy. Just doen’t fit with the girl theme. The Miss November in the Corvette, is she a Mime or something. She kinda gives me the creeps.
Great calendar, all in all.
Henry, the pictures are great, very good quality. I do like what you are doing. Just to American eyes, it’s just ever so slightly different than what we know. german people in American clothes and culture just look a little different. I am sure if one of us did a calendar with Americans in German cars and clothes you would feel the same way. Please, don’t stop though! All in all it’s very good work.
Ich habe deiner Fotografie gern!
I’m certain I got that wrong. I took three years of Deutsche Klasse, and that’s about the best I can do!
Anyway, I’m an amateur/pro photographer myself (I get paid to take pictures! I can say that legitimately!) and I think your work is superb. I see nothing wrong with the German Rockabilly culture, and if it’s just a bit inaccurate to those here in the states that lived it the first time around, don’t worry about it. It’s your thing now, so you can tweak the aesthetic to your liking. And as far as your photography skills, I see nothing that anyone could possibly be critical of. Excellent work.
If that doesn’t translate well, I’ll just say this: You have great skill in photography. The ladies and the cars are both beautiful. I disagree with the critics here! 🙂
Definitely not work safe, at least not my work…….sigh, yearns for the good old days
I finally got it!! Miss Edsel looks like a much, much younger version of one of the ladies that played Rose, the sister of Hyacinth Bouquet, of the BBC show, “Keeping up Appearances.” There were 2 ladies, I think, that played the part. The lady on the show could have been Miss Edsel’s mother or much older sister.
“Our Rose…”
“Your Rose…”
I think I might start using that with my wife’s sisters. 😛
Yes, Rose was constantly hitting on the young vicar. LOL
Dave I think your opinion comes close to my opinion. Thanks for constructive critic. Next year I’ll make a live casting to search the girls. ..and without boys.
Thanks Henry
keep them coming Henry,
*C*an’t *U*nderstand *N*ormal *T*hinking is quite what I didn’t expect to find posted here today, just saying…. GORGEOUS cars, though.
