It’s DDR morning. I’m hoping to get up a fastback CC later here, but in the meantime, enjoy this somewhat-automotive related video sent to me by CCer Peter Atkinson (English lyrics translation here).
DDR Day: A Brief Music Video Interlude Featuring Trabants, A Valiant, and Hot Girls (And Guys)

If Chrysler still made the Plymouth Valiant, this would certainly make a great commercial for them. I’d sooner have a V8 Valiant Convertible than a Kia Soul. This or that? Um, that one there.
Watching that, I’m reminded of this song from 1982 about a 1959 Morris Minor.
Morrie thou was a proper car common as around here even today many still on the road
Boah echt übatrieben goil Alda! This one came out in ’92, shortly after the fall of the wall and the German reunification, when Trabants were still around everywhere but dumped massively in exchange for new western cars. Maybe some symbolism (even if the song itself has none of that)?
(also, these guys were from former West Germany)
Ah, the DDR. Still remembered fondly by a lot of people in the old East. I was lucky enough to witness Karneval while I lived in Dresden. Lots of Trabbis cut up into convertibles.
