Now that you’ve finished all the holiday chores, put up the lights, sent out the cards and done all the shopping, it’s time to be rewarded. So what’s it going to be?
Me? Since I haven’t done any of the above, I deserve a lump of coal. But if I had…
I have the ultimate case of Auto-ADD, and I can fall in (and out) love with cars several time a day. And that’s all older cars. There’s just nothing new that really gets my juices going for more than a few moments except for the new Toyobaru coupes. The whole approach: lighter, simpler, low boxer engine, un-gimmicky..it all really speaks to me. The only problem: since we already have one Subaru and one Scion, which one to ask for?
And how about you?
Nismo 370Z
If I were you Paul, I’d be checking that the Scion and Subaru can be sold for right now 🙂
(you still have the Ford if you need to haul stuff right?)
For myself I’d really like something, well, I’ve got an even worse car loving ADD than you, so I really can’t decide to be honest 🙂 Maybe a nice unchopped, but channeled fenderless 1930 Model A with a Desoto hemi and a blower… Or just a chopped Volvo Amazon, or a Ford Capri 3.0, or a 67 Mustang, or well, you get the point…
Well, I suppose if I can ask for anything I’d possibly want, I’d like a sport utility vehicle that combines a modern powertrain and basic safety/comfort features with light weight and an absence of frills. Sort of a modern day successor to the original, civilian Willys Jeep.
But I suppose that, realistically, I’d be one of a few interested in such a beast…
Would the Santana PS-10/Iveco Massif fit the bill ? Basically an updated Landrover with a modern diesel.
I love those. Wish one could get them here
Nice try, but not so big…and closed. Think original, civilian Willys Jeep.
Count me in on that one!
I would really love it if Santa brought me a V60 plug-in diesel hybrid. Or almost any V60 for that matter. But hopefully not the really small motors.
Ditto with the automotive ADD (or is it ADHD). I once went looking for either a Miata or a Town Car, and ended up with an Odyssey.
But for a letter to Santa – Hmmmmm.
Howabout a nice 68 Chrysler 300 convertible. Or maybe a Model A. Or a Travelall. Maybe a 47 New Yorker sedan with Fluid Drive. Or a late model Mustang GT with red leather. Or a Miata. Or a 64 Lincoln Continental. Aaaaaggggghhhhh – I just can’t decide!
Maybe the best request on Santa’s list is for the continued health and well being of Curbside Classics and its growing number of contributors, and particularly our good friend Paul. This way I will eventually get one of each, plus a whole lot more.
JP, I think you will like the winter edition of Motor Trend Classics magazine. There’s an article with lots of great photos of a beautifully restored 65 Chrysler 300 convertible. I’ve been checking newsstands waiting for this issue to come out.
…and I second the best wishes to all CC contributors.
is That The “Next Issue” that was never issued?
I was just about to subscribe when it was gone too.
Well, as long as we’re wishing, you know what I like – just about anything that comes with a charger.
I would go for a CTS wagon, doesn’t have to be a V-series either.
But then I tell myself that I shouldn’t like a new GM, but it’s such a sweet car as a family hauler. Then I tell myself that I’m not really a luxury-car kinda guy, but it’s such a sweet car…gem of a chassis and drivetrain. Looks good too.
I do like the CTS wagon, too. Cadillacs just aren’t what they used to be, you know?
Realistically, I’d love to find this under my tree, not for me, for my Miata.
Santa I would love a 3 car garage! I am so happy with my fleet, I would not change a thing. My DD Dodge Magnum with the Hemi is still a thrill to drive to work everyday after 4 years! My Wife’s Expedition is a safe, reliable ride, and I feel good that she is toting our 2 babies around in that on a daily basis. My 72 Dart 340 Swinger is happy in the garage, and my 70 Chrysler 300 4door really wants to spend this winter in a garage and not under a cover in the driveway. My 18 foot deep 2 car garage can hold a Dart, my tools and all the kiddie toys but not much else. At least the garage is keeping the patina crisp on my puke brown Dart.
Santa you can put your sleigh in the 3rd bay…………..
I join Mopar in wishing for a garage, plus a 65 or 66 300 hardtop, an Avanti for the wife and a 37 Cord 812. I guess I’ll need four bays then!
And let me second JP’s wish of good tidings to everyone in the Cohort, including Santa Paul and all the elves in the back office. 🙂
I would beg Santa for Dodge to come up with a proper replacement for the first gen Neon. Until then I’ll dream of a Euro spec 09 or 10 Focus RS in my stocking.
I just got back from lunch and a Beautiful 1971-72 Mercedes 280 SE 4.5 in Green with tan leather was in for a tune up at the Berkeley Mercedes Mechanic across the street. I didn’t get a picture but….
My friend Marina was saying how I’d be a real “Man About Town” if I lusted for the 2 Door one, but something was just sooo right about the Four Door looking perfect in the December Sun.
And here’s a review to vindicate my point: http://www.automobilemag.com/features/collectible_classic/0808_1972_mercedes_benz_280se_collectible_classic/index.html
Luckily there were no Corvairs, 1962 Skylarks or Cutlasses or a Lancia Fulvia around to distract my attention, so that’s what I’d want under my tree right now. Maybe I should stay in the house before I end up changing my mind again.
Mmm, mmm that’s some fine motoring!
Those never fail to get to me.
The again, a “Turnpike Cruiser” equipped 1967 Cutlass Supreme would also get a spot under my tree. This AADHD brought to you by not finding a Green on Tan 280SE 4.5 on eBay, just a Blue on Beige one….
That green Mark IV from a few days ago.
+1 So I guess what i roughly want under my tree is $7000 or so to call SupremeBrougham’s grandparents with a solid offer and enough money to fly out there. Or… (see post further down)
You know Dan, that price is very negotiable 😉
Just some bits of paper would suit me aWarrant of Fitness pass for my Minx and a Structural integrity pass for it too and I can legally register it instead of sneaking around when I hope no cops are about. Or Failing that another identity for it any 3A ,3B, or 3C Hillman Minx or Humber 80 rego on hold will do.
Already got mine: a first gen Scion xB and a Porsche 924S. OK, I’d also like to have a 928 and a (preferably second gen) Corvair.
If I could have a brand new car from the past give me a Jeep Grand Wagoneer from 1991 with every conceivable option. If Santa doesn’t have a time machine, then give me either the Subaru BRZ or Toyota GT-86, whichever has a bigger aftermarket/factory support for modification first.
That would be nice, but maybe with the 4.0
Nah, Grand Wagoneer, gotta have the carburated 360V8 in all its technically backward glory.
If you move to Toledo, I’m sure you could still find one or two of them around, and in pretty good condition (what with the salt we use there in the wintertime).
I’m trying to convince my wife she needs a new Subaru BRZ. I’m a little afraid of the additional dealer markup these cars will likely have.
I’m gonna plus one on the 86… because one sportscar just isn’t enough. Plus, I’ve been such a good boy this year! Make mine white with red rims to match the xBox… in fact, maybe we could just share!
Red steelies on a 86. You really know how to get at your old man.
Ausgezeichnet!
Frohe Weihnachten, familie Niedermeyer!
Trinken Sie vielen Glühwein!
For me, it would have to be a 70 series Landcruiser diesel troop carrier bodied truck.
I Gotta go with a Espirt “Rockford” Firebird and a 77 Deville sedan. Some day Santa will notice my letters..
I had ADHD before it was cool (still called hyperkinesis) and not just about cars. Living on a fixed income right now just makes me wish that all my stuff worked. 57 chevy, 63 vw (separated from me right now) and the 2011Nissan cube. I think that is what I would want if my income were not fixed.
Sorry but ADHD sometimes just confuses me to much to focus on an outside lust.
I’d ask Santa for world peace. Or, failing that, a Jag 420G (with factory sunroof and aircon), a 59 Plymouth sedan or wagon, any sort of Panther-platform car, and a new Infiniti G or M. We don’t get Infinitis here (except as JDM Nissan-badged used imports), but apparently they’re setting up shop in 2012, so my Christmas wish may come true! Now, who do I see about obtaining a winning lottery ticket…
congratulate in advace if you win your lottry
smash repairs perth
I’m married, have a baby, and have another one on the way next year, so as much as I want the Subaru BRZ (and oh boy, do I want it), it cannot be justified.
So, instead I’ll wish for an E39 M5 with a JPY100,000 gas card and custom-fitted baby seats. Why an E39, you may be asking yourselves? Or may not be asking as the case may be, so let’s just pretend that’s a rhetorical question and I’ll answer it anyways. Because the E39 was the best looking 5 Series with the least amount of electronic douchebaggery going on with enough firepower under the hood to make my wife say unsayable things and do undoable things. The E60/61 was too “expressive” and silly and will look dated in ten years. The F10/11 still suffers from too many electrons flitting every which way in an effort to do everything and anything they can in order to, well, I’m not sure, but no car I’ve owned has ever felt as though they needed more pointless 1s and 0s to feel complete.
So please, Santa, bring me the mythical E39 M5. In Laguna Seca Blue. Oh, and don’t forget the long-term, bumper-to-bumper warranty (we are talking about an aging German sedan here, after all)!
I suppose if we’re going to be reasonable, I’ll wish for my car, only with AWD and the 2.2L turbo WRX motor underhood. I even like the color.
The practical (but far from boring) side of me wants a new Alfa Romeo MiTo with the Quadrifoglio Verde trim level, if it was available on this side of the pond. That gives it the 170hp turbo 1.4l Multi-Air engine. Sporty and good looking, but still good on gas. The last couple of times I have been to Italy, those cars stopped me dead in my tracks.
The not-so-practical side of me would take a 1987 Buick GNX.
You know, all I want this year is time to work on my VW.
Just a few few nights where I’m not finishing up kids lunches or whatever at 10:20 and thinking, oh great, I’ve got 10 minutes to do whatever I want before bed.
Maybe some warm Saturdays…
Best Wishes to All !
+1
Substitute Chrysler instead of VW and I am in pretty much the same situation.
Hey, I want to see that thing sometime…
Well, Paul, you could take your Scion to the dealer, telling your wife you’re going to get another one, and come back with a Scion FR-S. Well, not yet though. Maybe Christmas next year? Give you the chance to “be good” for the year!
Remember, you live only once! Splurge once in a while!
I’m thinking that maybe I shoulda never sold my 300L hardtop. I’m gettin’ older and even lazier, and some days I think that a nice simple newish Mustang GT with a 5-speed would suit me just fine. Then I look in HMN and see a nice 1950 Packard coupe/sedan or a 1957 New Yorker or a 4-speed C-body 66 Plymouth 2-door hardtop or a 1970 short-box Cheyenne pickup….
Merry Christmas everyone!
I’d echo those that just want their current projects complete. Son Number Two and I have a pair of early 60s VWs we’re slowly rebuilding, I have my 69 F-100 that’s wanting a complete redo, and the ’50 International L-170 would be a hay-haulin’ hoot with a repower and repaint.
I’d want a completely rebuilt rear end for my Lincoln with disc brakes.
I’d Wish for a Return to Traditional ALL NEW, improved Styling EVERY September , refreshed every year, with visually identifiable differences.
CTS v 2 door Convertible Cadillac
CTS V Wagon
2013 XTS, but call it a Sedan DeVille or uptrim a Fleetwood 60 Special version of it
I Want The ATS to Be a Home Run Hit…but fear it won’t be, Please make it Happen
A Full Reboot of Lincoln Vehicles, with New 2 Door, Convertible & Compact Luxury Models Available before 2013 ends.
Real New Chrysler products, not completely derived from Fiats or Alfa Romeos
A New Corvette, and Most of all A NEW THUNDERBIRD , retro 66 model or 65
A nice Mailbu Maxx SS or a HHR SS.
Zu dem Familie Niedermeyer:
Frohe Weinachten, und einen guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr!
Familie Denzinger.
For fun cars, assuming I even have space to store them when not driving (I don’t) it’d be a clean, 1970’s Civic CVCC hatch, a 75 or so and restore it to that red/orange or yellow paint or a ’74 with the turquoise blue paint.
Or a ’68 Chrysler 300 2 door hardtop or the convertible. I’d restore it to red or that blue it had with the white vinyl upholstery with buckets and console and the base motor, though I hear they only got the 440 though.
But for a daily driver, just give me a Fiat 500 Sport sedan. Preferably one that has the 5spd manual, safety and convenience package (contains auto climate, alarm, heated seats and spare tire) and get the aftermarket Webasto sunroof with the full sunshade that uses the original headliner and I’ll be happy in replacing my truck.
