Our own Laurence Jones shot this very well-staged shot of a Cimarron with the modern iteration of its intended competition. What could have been…
And TheProfessor47 has a nice set of shots he took in rural Curbsidelandia (Oregon), including this almost-identical Cimarron. Head on over to the Cohort and check them all out.
Wouldn’t the Cimarron’s competition be a 3 series instead?
There’s more Cimarron-ia where that came from, Oakland is crawling with them.
Got any shots of a Cimarron and a Buick Verano side by side?
Wasn’t the Cimmaron’s official debut at Disneyland?
Someone with more disposable income than I needs to build a Cimmy convertible.. Or maybe take an early Z24 and make a “CTS” coupe out of it.
CTC Cimarron Touring Coupe d Elegance.
Carmine, that sounds so 80s sexy it needs to happen.
The tough part is find a clean Cavalier and a clean Cimarron to start with.
And a Cimarron Sports Wagon too.
Curbsidelandia, where old cars go to live on.
There were times I thought of making my 1984 Type 10 Cavalier convertible into a Cimarron .
The Cav is easy. The Cimmy, not so much..
Now that I think about it (thanks to lax), the Type 10 hatchback would make the perfect CTCdE. Let’s add GT in there too while we’re at it. A CTCdE-GT would fit right in with the curent naming trends.
With the optional D’Oro package….of course.
Yes! We need the Gold! It would have to have the “Dual Twin” 3.4 for a motivator too.
Try finding one that hasn’t grenaded. The “twin dual cam V-6” was not GM’s finest effort. Perhaps crate engines are available. If not, put a 3800 in it, since that is about a reliable as an anvil.
When they ran, they went like crazy.. The “tuning” held them back in stock form.
Really, the DT6 was one of GMs better efforts. Have you pulled one apart? It’s a 2.8 with some serious adapters to run 4 cams. Someone worked a bit of crazy overtime on that thing.
Mercury Marine.. Poppycock!
It would be interesting to see a 320i next to the Cimmy. We tend to forget how large the 3 series is now. The CTS really isn’t the direct descendant of the Cimmy (I would say the ATS is), but it would be a more apt comparison.
Good point. A 2002 is closer in size to a J car though. I’m not really ragging on Caddy either. It’s more of an if a CCer built it now kind of thing.
I would like to see Cadillac bring back real names though.
+1 On real names. Random letters just don’t cut it.
Ha!
Even Ma Mopar had a real name behind her letter cars. Belvedere, Satellite, Omni, Neon..
New for 2013: the Cimarron BROUGHAM
There is a kid on my daughter’s lacrosse team who occasionally drives a well worn Cimarron to practice. I figure that it had to belong to someone’s grandmother. Not a bad high school kid car, I suppose. I never seem to be able to catch it for photos, though.
