On this Independence Day, I’m going to celebrate my independence from keyboard tyranny. Can I extend that to a month? Never mind; I’d miss everyone after a week or so; don’t want to be too independent. Enjoy the day (and our vast archives), and celebrate the birth of this on-going grand experiment in democracy.
Happy Independence Day!

Indeed, happy Independence Day from New Zealand to all the CC team and readers in the USA! đ
An echo of those thoughts from Hawkes Bay NZ.
Happy Independence Day from the UK
Coming from the UK, that means a lot to us Yanks…thanks!
Happy July 4th USA. Should it be a Corvette or a Mustang on here..
I prefer the Mustang..Each to their own
+1 make mine an early coupe with a 289 4 barrel and auto please. We may give you Yanks a bit of ribbing but you’ve made some great cars.(Some not all of them!)
Considering that the Mustang and I were “born” (quotes for the Mustang, not me) within three months of each other, I love the pony car, but can also live with the fantastic plastic to represent the spirit of the United States.
I’m just grateful we have the freedom to choose in this land…
It wouldn’t be Independence Day without the 1974 Impala Spirit of America Edition:
And how many of these still exist in the world…the 1974 El Camino Spirit of America Edition:
Ummm, actually, I get the feeling the El Camino is a “homemade special”. Per 1974 Chevrolet ads, there was only a Vega, Nova, and Impala SofA editions. Oops.
Must have been in response to the ‘Sprint DĂ©cor Option’ available on the 1972 Pinto, Maverick, and Mustang:
Not to be outdone:
Here’s the Nova:
Now we’re talking!
Props for recognizing the day for what it is, Independence Day, not some commercialized spend-spend-spend “4th of July”!
Wait, where are all of the Studebakers, Nashes, Packards and such? Oh wait, that would make it a Happy Independents Day. Sorry.
Maybe we could find a video of a Pinto backing at high speed into the side of a Chevy Pickup with sidesaddle tanks for some fireworks? Or maybe not.
Here you go Jim! Happy Independence Day everyone!
And let us not forget Chrysler’s “America” series of K- and L-cars…
No, let’s forget these.
ROFL…I deserved that one, Kevin!
What’s surprising to me is that no one ever made a car/model called “Independence”. Seems obvious. Or am I forgetting something?
Sounds too much like an adult diaper brand. It’d never get past Marketing.
LOL, that’s what I thought too.
Might fly for a Jeep model.
This jogs something…I think “Independence” may have been a trim line on early ’30s Chevies. Gotta go check the archives…
Well there is the Independence class Aircraft Carrier. My Great Uncle was the navigator of one during WWII, after which he was done with big American iron.
I need to do a Quayside Classic on that…
Happy July 4th from North Carolina !
Happy 4th from the great white north !
I’ll take the Bicentennial Eldorado down to the July 4th Regatta.
Happy 4th!!
And this Fourth of July will probably be remembered for the best car deal I’ve ever pulled down: A clean 1996 Ford Contour GL, 94600 miles, 2.0 liter four cylinder, five speed, A/C, cruise, power locks, AM/FM/(unused)cassette, well cared for with all service records since new (and I’ve known the car since 1998) . . . . . .
. . . . . . . traded to me for a new Windows 8 laptop.
You definitely got the better deal. (c:
Do I detect a Mac addict here? Good.
Actually, no. Quite the contrary. If it’s made by Apple, I regard it as overpriced, underpowered, and I pride myself in not being a stand-in-line-sheep. Last Apple product was a Mac 512. Haven’t gone near anything of theirs since.
Whoever got the laptop won……
Really Carmine?! I’ve heard many tech reviewers refer to Windows 8 as the OS you would give to someone you hate!
I give you the 1931 Chevrolet Independence.
Excellent; I was pretty sure I’d seen/heard one somewhere/sometime, and you’ve recalled it better than my creaky memory banks. Chevrolet was using some interesting names in that era.
Yeah, I was wondering if anyone would look close enough to see that the ’32 was called “Confederate”!
Putting the “American” in American Motors Corporation.
CC Effect! I saw a SC/Rambler for sale today.
Now that’s a pair of well cool cars rarely seen at shows or in magazines
Part Deux.
Even cooler Javelins rock!Let’s see a feature on a Javelin please especially the pre 71 cars in big bad colours
Old/New Camaro red, white and blue!
(I stole it from the Chevy Performance “Block” website…)
Happy Fourth!
Japanese Nostalgic Car posted this Toyota 200GT model pic on Facebook in honour of Independence Day. Seems a bit incongruous!
