Yes, we were down for some hours today, and some posts are still throwing 404 errors. David Saunders has been hard at work in the evenings after work to make the necessary repairs and try to figure out what started all this. Probably an automatic update to a plugin, or something like that. Please be patient, and if we’re down, check back later, as there may be a few outages during the repair process.
Housekeeping: Still Trying To Track Down The Gremlins
– Posted on October 5, 2022
Bugs Bunny (Whispering): Do you suppose maybe it could be a …Gremlin?
Gremlin (Shouting): IT AIN”T WENDELL WILKIE!
“Falling Hare” (1943)
Thanks for keeping everything up and running!
I think the crappy 500 error is fixed. The occasional 404 error lingers via the site search (below CC Cohort) or Google search but hopefully that will be sorted soon. As work around the search in the top right hand corner does work just fine.
Thanks for keeping at it.
Figures that the Gremlins would come out, given all of the AMC attention we’ve been having lately here on the site.
Thanks David for your attention and persistence!!
Thanks for working on keeping the site up and running!
Not sure if its related or not, but once the current issues started coming up the mobile version stopped loading in Firefox on Android 11, it goes to the web version with no option I can see to chose the mobile site. This happened also on Samsung internet when it was updated awhile back, and a bunch of mobile sites went dead so I switched to Firefox on my phone with no issues. And with all the travel I do I access CC almost exclusively on my phone. Hopefully this can be rectified at some point once the main site is stable and the 404s are dealt with.
I have the same issue as described by Trainman in the comment above.
I like to read CC at work,(only when on a break of course !!)
There used to be an option to switch between mobile or desktop versions, or if that failed which it sometimes did, I could use Samsung Internet, which as of now won’t let CC fit the mobile screen format, so unfortunately CC is virtually unreadable on my mobile phone.
Funny thing is now this post shows up in the mobile version, but when I tap for the home page it and many articles are still on the desktop version. And the option to switch between them is available. Steady progress!
