Our COAL bunker is empty, and it’s getting cold. So we need us some new COALers, as in two of them, preferably.
No experience needed, and no need to feel like you’re not up to the job; it’s as easy as leaving a long comment.
We just need you to be willing to stick to the job until it’s finished.
If you’re game, send me a list of your cars (can be long or short), and preferably a draft text of the first one. Email to: curbsideclassic@gmail.com
PS: For you newbies, COAL = Cars Of A Lifetime
And it’s not just COAL; we always welcome new contributors. I’m sure you’ve got something worth sharing.
I realize that “coal” in this context is a pun. But some years ago in their Good, Bad & Ugly section, CAR magazine wrote that a particular car had been “hewing away at the coal face for X years without anyone seeming to notice.”
I hope SajivW hasn’t gone missing permanently. I’ve really been enjoying his COALs.
He said he needed a week off. We’ll see….
Nope, still here. Just got a little behind on some work last week. This week’s edition is in the works. Will make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Jim Klein has obly written about the Tesla purchase in the last year or so. He must have a good 20 coals up his sleeve.
I’m behind by three units…perhaps four. 🙂 And an update is long overdue as well.
Glad someone brought that up first, since in the past I’ve asked about when we would see and read about his pickup.
I wonder who’ll come up with what .
I’m a terrible writer sadly .
Plus, I like boring obscure vehicles .

IIRC you mentioned hundreds of past cars…that would make a hell of a series!
I was actually going to reach out as I’m working on something with my Dad. He’s owned 30+ vehicles over his lifetime – many quite unusual.
Probably not able to do a COAL for each but perhaps a short story by decade or a four part series I was thinking? Is this something you’d be interested in me sharing?
Sounds great to me, Colin! Father’s cars are definitely fair game here. Most people’s COAL series start with parents’ and relatives’ cars.
Like many contributors here, my first-hand driving experiences only extend back to the 1980s. Using relatives helps get us back to the more interesting (for me, anyway) automotive times of the 1950s and 1960s.
Sure,
Reach out to me via that email address.
I’m waiting to get my third car back so I can start writing my next COAL, it’s just taking forever since some problems have come up, so I may very well just start on it the second I can get some pictures and some info regarding the car’s past.
I would love to do a write up on Holley aircraft carburetors, but can’t find many pictures, and not sure how many of our fellow CC’s here would be interested.
I’ve never even aspired to have a pilot’s license, and I’d be interested. I assume that aircraft carburetors are different from automotive carburetors.
Do it! Stranger things have caught people’s fancy, and you have at least two readers ready..
Make that three. I would definitely geek out on a deep dive.
Alright guys, give me some time to work on it. It won’t happen until after the Holidays.
Yup, working on grabbing pics for my next COAL and hope to have it done… eventually!
I’ve been wanting to write a COAL about my ’79 Malibu for a long time. I bought it new and it has been here for all the ups and downs in my life. Maybe I can get to it this winter. Also, my Dad’s ’62 Olds wagon that has an interesting story.
I should start making a list of the cars I owned since getting my license in 1984, there should be at least 60 I think, including some real weird and obscure ones. Not sure however I could really write them up, english is not my first language, so it would be a lot of work and thinking. If I ever finish my list of cars I should try and see if I can do it…..
English isn’t mine or Paul’s first language either but judging by your comment and the sentence structure thereof you are already ahead of many native english speakers. Nothing improves it like practice.
Pete, Jim is absolutely correct. Your comment gives no indication of English not being your first language.
While I cannot speak for others, I would be very interested in reading about what you have owned.
Now I’m intrigued to know where you live and what weird and obscure cars you’ve owned!
English is a second language for Xtalfu and SajivW, and they’ve been writing good COALs.
