With the initial notice going out a few weeks ago for our 2018 Midwest gathering we wanted to remind those interested parties that everything is still a go!
On Friday, September 14, we will meet at Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois. Let’s aim for an 11:30 meeting. Their inventory looks fabulous right now, with such rarities as a 1979 Buick Riviera Turbo and a 1983 Chrysler Cordoba. There are over 600 cars there for sale.
Then on Saturday, September 15, we will visit the National Museum of Transportation beginning at 9:30. It has trains, planes, boats, and a building full of cars such as an operational Chrysler Turbine. Their website site shows the trolley will be operating this weekend, weather permitting. Right now, the forecast is for sunny skies and a high of 86 Fahrenheit.
The original notice, along with physical addresses, can be found here. If you have questions, my email address is jason.shafer(at)ymail.com
Hope to see you there!
Sadly can’t be there.
If you are negotiating a volume deal for CC at CCC and they’ll knock a zero off the price of the 1938 Desoto call my cell Jason!
Can do.
As we all know I am always a buyer, this is going to be better than walking the local Carmax lot! Arriving Thursday…
Jason, are you trailering the Galaxie up as a potential trade-in? That ’83 Cordoba looks tasty.
It has crossed my mind about four dozen times…
I will see everyone there. I could be driving a Curbside Classic, we’ll see.
This shall be interesting….
I’ll drive mine if you drive yours…
Sorry I can’t make this one, as I really enjoyed the one we had in Baltimore last month!
The locomotive in the middle of the third picture has a real Steampunk (maybe Dieselpunk?) vibe to it…
If that ’78 Dodge Magnum had a 400 Big Block, I’d have the team give it a careful rust inspection, but it’s clearly a small block, and quite possibly a 318, so I’ll pass.
(It also has ugly wheels and gross paint, but these things are easier to change than swapping a Mopar big block into a small block B-Body).
Unfortunately, hurricane Florence has canceled my plans to attend as I’m employed by a the same type of agency as you Jason. We’re all hands on deck until the storm passes, damages are accessed, emergency repairs and contracts done, etc. I’ll make one of these meet ups eventually. . .
You guys have fun!
We shall have fun and your situation is all too relatable. The remnants of Hurricane Gordon (is that the one?) showed up here this weekend and, well, it ended as much ado about nothing. I hope that’s the case for you, also.
I had been looking forward to comparing notes with you.
Thanks for the positive thoughts. It all depends on which way she goes. The rainfall is an issue even if NC gets the brunt of it. I’m glad I don’t live in the lowcountry anymore. In the upstate you just stay on top of a hill and you won’t drown or get flooded out. There are no hills in the lowcountry – the water just jumps the banks and beaches and goes everywhere like the flatter portions of the Midwest. I’m curious , which side of the house are you on? I’m construction. You sound like you’ve spent a good bit of time in traffic and maintenance at county and district level.
You are correct.
I can see your email address; care if I email you?
Not at all, feel free.
I wish you all well. Those trains look awesome!
Wish I could make it. The museum of transportation was fun when I visited 20 plus years ago and I hear that it is even nicer now.
It is; they’ve made a lot of improvements in just the last three or so years.
Last-minute plan change so I won’t be there, but I hope you folks have a great time!
Unfortunately, work isn’t going to allow for a day off tomorrow, so I’ll have to miss, too. Bummer!
