I’ve finished my college work for the semester and I’ll be back to my regular “What If” posts soon, but in the meantime I wanted to share one of my school projects. This was made for my cartooning class, and the full version is a forty panel strip that clocks in at over 150 megapixels. Instead of crashing the website I’ve broken it down to the four main panels, and if I’ve been successful the story should remain clear. Be sure to click through to the full size images to enjoy all the details.
Car Art: The Seasons Of Automotive Life

What? No linky? Post it on u-tube or something?
Are you still doing these by hand?
I made these in Corel Painter with a graphics tablet, so while they are done by hand they are made on a computer. Also, because of time constraints the major foreground cars were traced (just the basic outlines, all the details like rust and reflections were still freehand). I’m capable of drawing the cars freehand, but I’m not too comfortable with perspective so it takes me several days of refinements per car, as opposed to a few hours this way. Also, I don’t think a single car up there is the same color as the original, and in some I even changed the model of the car (for example, the DeSoto wasn’t an adventurer to begin with).
Tomorrow I’ll try to upload the rest of the panels to my blog and post a link here in the comments section
Deep… and I mean that. The longer you stare the deeper it gets.
Is that a DeSoto Adventurer on the far left in the “Concours D’Elegance” pic?
Good eye. Yes, that’s an Adventurer, or at least it is supposed to be. I realize that the gold color is a bit off, call it artistic license…
This is beautiful work. I especially like the way it’s from the Hudson’s point of view.
Great work! If that snowy black ’70 hasn’t slid off the road, it probably will a few frames later. 🙂
Great artwork Steven, and I love the choice of a Husdon. It looks like Miss Daisy’s. Those four panels would look great framed and matted on a wall too.
Nice work.
Delightful!
Realllly well done. I like it a lot.
