I was on a weekend trip to NYC with Mrs DougD, the inlaws were kidsitting and never having been there we were doing a whirlwind tour of all the classic tourist stops. On a Greenwich Village food tour with Food Tours of New York (highly recommended) our guide took us down on Cornelia Street, showing off one of the few remaining carriage houses, how Bob Dylan and Ernest Hemingway lived on this street, etc. but I was looking at that red hood:
An honest to goodness Maserati Ghibli at the curb! I only had a few minutes before the tour moved on but it was in very nice shape inside and out. My wife didn’t pay much heed at the time but was shocked when I later told her that was probably a $150,000 car.
Cool find its not like theres many of these about.
it should give you an idea how expensive parking in NYC is that even guys in Maserattis and Ferraris park at the curb!!!
You see some very interesting and very expensive classic cars on the streets in NYC occasionally, as a result of the city having so many highly affluent people. About 10 years ago I saw a 1957-58 Eldorado Brougham being driven quite briskly down a potholed part of 32nd Street in Midtown. A classic of any sort really stands out when at least half of the cars on the street are identical yellow Crown Vic taxis and black Town Cars.
Gorgeous but a PITA to keep running and looking good with bills to make your eyes water
A homeless person unable to afford NYC rents may be living in the thing.
I know this car. Based on the ORC plate, this car is owned by Olivier Renaud-Clément who is an art dealer and car collector who lives in Queens. He was profiled by the New York Times a few years ago. He parks his car collection around the lower East Side.
thanks for posting the link. this guy has a great attitude and awesome taste.
I’d be mighty nervous about the delicate front and rear ends. Gorgeous car; always loved these; Giugiaro at his best.
Beautiful car!
Yes, that Maserati is a real beauty! However, I’d be nervous about parking any vehicle on the street that wasn’t a beater. I’ve been in and through NYC probably a dozen times (driving a semi tractor/trailer).
I saw this car in Brooklyn about a year ago. It was parked in front of a newly opened and critically acclaimed restaurant, so perhaps the pwner was on the same tour? Either way, it’s Gorgeous. LOVE the duel fuel filler detail.
what surprises me is how casually he parks the car. most new yorkers with decent cars make sure the car is no more than one inch from the curb especially on a narrow street like that.
it’s not rare to find expensive metal at the curb on the street. i don’t think people do it to save money. there’s sort of a perverse pride that guys (and it’s always guys) have here in their ability to find a street spot and parallel park in it.
also, the garages are brutal on cars especially stick shifts. my garage parks cars so close together that they enter and exit through the driver’s window. i often find footprints on the car and one time they had to repair my center console because they damaged it by standing on it when exiting.
What’s with the exhaust? It spoils the back end of that car.
Wow, didn’t notice that myself. That is hideous.
Looks like a pearl red color not a bright solid red. Always loved elegant colors on exotics and sport cars. Maserati was absolutely tops at that hitting the Bora and Merak with some beautiful shades of paint.
The view and visibility out of that perfect windshield must be spectacular.
