About the best thing that has happened to me this summer is meeting Nick, who has become my assistant in my various projects, like renovating the house his rig is parked in front of. I met Nick because of the awesome truck he drives, which will be the subject of a full CC, as soon as I can stop doing these Peugeot CCs.
Anyway, Nick spends a few days each week in Portland, and he showed up yesterday with this cute little utility trailer, which he scored for $100. He has big plans for it, but maybe we’ll cover that another time when he starts to implement them. In the meantime, can you ID the original source of the bed? (Hint: the logo on the back might be a bit misleading) How about something a bit more challenging?
Like these tail lights grafted onto the fenders? Anybody recognize them?
Update: We really don’t know what they’re from, so if you know, please do show pictures or other evidence. This is not a CC Clue; we really are clueless.
Are the taillights Mercury? The rest I’m clueless about. Anxiously awaiting the CC on the truck towing this thing though.
Ford pickup bed, Studebaker lights?
Initial guess is a 63-66 Studebaker Wagonaire, but the shape is slightly off.
I thought they were off a much earlier model but with Studebaker they probably recycled them several times.
I don’t know about the bed, but maybe the taillights are from a mid-50s Ford panel truck?
Studebaker was the first thing that came to my mind too.
I can say that those lights are not off a Stude. Any Bakers with lights that followed a curving fender like this had flat lenses.
That bed looks to be constructed like a Chevy/GMC with the corner pillars and the flat top bedsides. But with cut down Ford F-1 fenders?
The Wagonaire taillight is somewhat similar, but it’s not the same.
I was going to suggest the Wagoniare’s taillights, only upside down, but I guess not.
Ford panel truck around 1959.

It looks like “Ford Panel Truck” is correct for the tail light. Here’s one at almost the same angle.
Interesting collector discussion here–evidently a rare item nowadays (one wonders how much over & above Nick’s $100 he could recoup just by selling the lenses): http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/57-60-f100-panel-truck-tailight-lenses-unobtanium.671242/
…
Wow–thank you, Nick (TailightKing = new to me). I’ve made it a bit bigger for the curious:
You’re welcome Sally, this has been quite fun. Ps, mine seem to be in even better condition than those listed and sold there…
I take it that the generic trailer taillights below and behind the Ford panel ones are the ones that actually work, so if you take the Ford ones off you won’t even need to find other taillights?
If I had a set of those in nice shape, I’d send them to David Azzopardi at Damax, who has done several very highly craftsmanlike lens repros for me over the years, very affordably.
This would seem to be a perfect candidate for someone like Jay Leno who strongly espouses 3-D printing to recreate difficult to find/expensive parts, such as old taillight lenses (like these). If I had an old ride and was in a similar situation, he’d be one of the first guys I’d try to contact.
From the link, it looks like the housings aren’t too tough to locate; just the lenses.
Those tires look like old bias ply tires, 6.75×15 if my old eyes read right. Glad you made down the valley on them without problems. What year is your Dodge panel truck? Looks to be late 50’s to me. I had a ’57 Chevrolet Panel in the late 70’s-early 80’s that was almost the color as yours. And over the years I have bought trailers and other things that had easily replaceable parts that were worth a great deal of money. Like the ’67 Dodge PU I bought in ’78 with cherry ’64 Mustang seats for $700.00. Sold the seats for 1\2 of that and drove the truck for 8 years. Also bought a Tote Goat for $5.00, had it in my garage a year and a friend of a friend saw it and before I could say anything he said “I’ll give you $100.00 for it”. Kept my mouth shut and collected the money and out the door it went.
Lincoln tail lights?
I dunno if I have seen Nick’s rig around Portland a few times or if there is another Dodge Town Panel and trailer combo in the area.
Do they do 3D printing in clear/tinted plastic?
I’m thinking 40-48 Lincoln continental lights. no clue on the box tho.
