I was taking a stroll through the Cohort, when this shot posted by CC reader Teddy caught my eye. The heat coming off this open flame is doing a number on those cars, but two of them are easily recognized. Not so much the third one, in the center. And it’s not just the flames that are making it look distorted either.
Ford Fairmont?
Nah, It’s an 80’s Honda Accord sedan, terribly dented in an minor accident. At first I thought it was either a Buick LeSabre or Eagle Premier, but I noticed the hood bump. And, it’s smaller than the Buick or Eagle by 66 Meters…
85 Accord
Looks like a second gen accord
I’m with the previous two replies… 2nd gen Accord sedan
First Gen Camry.
Yes,sir.
I was originally thinking 80’s GM H Body (Oldsmobile 88 or Buick Lesabre) missing a grille, but the rubber bumper is making me think Accord.
Hyundai excel I think
I second this. I think it’s a Hyundai Excel.
I have never seen an Excel in the Portland area.
Really? I too, live in the Portland area (Hillsboro) and I’ve seen several Excels. Even saw a S-Coupe the other week that looked like it had sat at the bottom of a lake for a few years. It was driving though and fairly straight. Just mossy. Unfortunately 98% of the cars I see while driving, so I rarely attempt to take any pictures.
Second gen Accord, Eagle Premier or first gen Camry.
I’d say it’s a 1985 Honda Accord SEi due to the four sealed beams, wheels, and running light placement. The hood also looks oddly bent from the obvious impact, giving me a stronger hunch that it’s a reverse opening/clamshell hood, which is found on second generation Honda Accords. A feature I truly enjoy on my own 1982 Accord.
I’m with Mike. Originally, I thought, ‘it looks like an SEi, but it’s not the usual brown I’m used to seeing’, and then I started to remember that the Accord SE going back to 1983 was gray, also. Final answer, Regis. SEi.
early/mid 80’s Honda Accord 4 door
’82 or ’83 Gen II Accord. Is there a prize for the winner?
Happy Motoring, Mark
It’s an Bangle-era BMW… (c:
I was 100% convinced it was an accord, but now that you mention it….
I guess I need my glasses checked, yet again. It looks like a 7 series Volvo, with the back half being the straightest, and what looks like the trademark Volvo “slash” barely visible in front.
I’m with you. Volvo 740.
I’m with you guys.
Featured car doesn’t have the quarter window in the C pillar, and even dinged up the front end is too short to be a 700 series.
And no Volvo 700 series ever had running lights in the bumper.
Early ’90’s Monaco?
In that vein, I was thinking Renault Alliance. Something about the rear 1/4 window treatment says France to me. But it could be the flames.
My first impression was a mid-eighties Accord, or whatever the equivalent Acura was at the time (Vigor, maybe?). Then I scrolled down. Most of you fellow Curbivores seem to agree, so I’ll stay with that guess.
I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s a Hyundai Stellar.
Volvo 740/760 sedan??
Too small. Mazda 929?
’82 Accord
I was thinking smooshed H body, but Accord seems right ,.
(Second Gen?) Honda Accord. Early 80s, before they got the pop-up headlights.
I was thinking Volvo initially, but it’s too small. I vote Honda Accord
1981-1983 Honda Accord. While the wheels are hard to make out, you can see they are stock, steel rims. The 1984-1985 has a slightly revised front clip, with different side markers.
Thanks to the damage, the side markers are non-existent on this car, but the front bumper is still distinct.
Them old Hondas never die.
early 80’s small ford ltd/ mercury marquis.
Sorry. Those had chrome bumpers
Second generation Accord… the front end looks a little munched, and the hood looks raised at the windshield edge…was the ’86 the one started the trend of it opening the ‘conventional’ way?
Edit, I see that has been answered above.
Honda Accord that has seen better days.
Volkswagen Jetta.
good point TJ. I was thinking overall shape, thx !
1st Gen Camry
85 – 90 B12 version of a Nissan Sentra – No doubt
This, or a Mazda 323. Or even late ’80’s early ’90’s Subaru DL/Loyale?
The featured car has dual sealed beam headlights while the Sentra, 323 and Loyale had single headlights in sealed beam or composite design.
That front turn signal with the horizontal split is throwing me off. Neither the Accord or Excel had that style, as far as I know.
And it may just be an optical illusion from the heat.
First generation Camry. I think. I Googled pics of both the Camry and its contemporary Accord, and it’s a REALLY tough call, but there’s something overall that I can’t put my finger on that tells me Camry. It’s going to bother me until the answer is revealed.
First-gen Camry has flat-topped rear arches. This one doesn’t.
I would say Gen II Accord, probably a 1982 or 1983. That gray color was the most popular color on those cars, at least here in R.I., by far.
Some model Volvo. Can’t think of anything else.
My first thought was Eagle Premier, but I don’t recall those ever having quad sealed-beam lamps, among other issues. So I’ll concur with the 2nd-gen Accord votes. Though I think it’s an ’84-’85, as the right-hand side of the nose looks less damaged and it appears to be a right angle over there between the fender edge and the bumper. The fender points and markers went from a reverse cant to a right angle at the ’84 refresh. And while it’s really hard to tell from the heat distortion, those look more like alloys than hubcaps, so I’m specifically joining the ’85 SEi votes.
Looking through some of the comments including the one above it is definitely indicative of an ’85 SE-i… very few Hondas of that era came with alloy wheels and the featured car is certainly not wearing steelies. Here’s a picture of an unbattered example.
Quite possibly a gen 2 Accord, as many have said, but the first thing that occurred to me was Chevy Cavalier.
On second look it could even be a Subaru GL….but I think I will stick with my original choice
1984 Honda Accord LX with 5-speed manual.
Corolla, ’bout 1987 or ‘8.
So when do we find out the answer???????!!!!!!!!!!!?????????
1985ish Pontiac Grand Am
