Those that have been around for a while know that our favorite urban hike is from our house to Skinner Butte, which overlooks downtown Eugene and the southern half of town. And that I make a point to take shots from there; of the cars in the overlook parking lot, that is. I can pretty much count on a couple of CCs up there, and Friday was no exception. I’ll have to do a compilation of all of them sometime.
Skinner Butte Outtake: Fall Colors

’84 Camry… I bought one of those new, but the LE model that had painted bumpers. Great little family car, comfortable ride and plenty of room.
Had a 85 white camry it did have a lot of room but it had the most uncomfortable sreering wheel ever it had 2 bumps at the back of the wheel at the 20 past / 20 to positions that would dig into my hands on a long (8) hour drive it was my dads car, he gave it to me when he got a new car
Lets see. First gen Camry, first gen Ranger standard cab pickup, First gen Mercury Villager, Subaru Impreza?? and a 2000-2007 Ford Focus all the way in the corner
I believe instead of Impreza that is a Lexus CT200h, judging by the low numbers of those being sold, we’ll all be sitting around in about 20 years waiting for someone to do a proper CC write-up then…
Naturally, the Mercury Villager caught my eye first. I know the second generation never sold in huge numbers, but it amazes me how few I’ve seen within the past few years. Not to mention every one I have seen recently seems to be suffering from severe lower door rust/corrosion and peeling paint.
I was rear ended by 2 of those Villagers/Quests, one in 1997 while driving my 83 Civic, and in 2005 while I was in the 88 Accord.
Both green, but owned by 2 different owners, and different years.
I believe the first one was indeed a ’97, the second one was an ’02 if memory serves. However, can’t recall if one was the actual Nissan variant, or both Merc’s.
Neither Honda were totaled, but both suffered a good bit of damage (around $900 on the Accord alone). However, both cars got replaced within a year, or less after the accident due to other issues semi related to the accident, their age, and mileage and overall condition.
As to the other cars, I was able to identify the first three easily, however, the cars after the Villager, kind of hard to decipher without zooming in. I would agree the white wagon is the Lexus CT200h, and a gal at work drives a black one of those.
The red car, hard to tell as the rear C pillar slopes too much to be a coupe, though it could be one, and the first gen Focus I don’t think came in a coupe, but did come in 3/5 door hatchbacks, a wagon, and sedan however, and both hatchbacks had the rear taillights in the C pillar, and they don’t look to be there if indeed the older Focus hatch. However, if a more current one, then yeah, possibly.
Those old Ranger trucks are long lived and quite decent for their day as I had one, though mine was a second gen like this one, but the extended cab version, with cap and the thirsty 4.0L V6.
That Village/Quest is the size we need now. The 2001 Quest SE was the runner-up to my last new car, and I would have considered one this size this go ’round as well.
