The first Well Wrapped Car generated a lot of interest, so let’s do another. It’s not so easy finding covered cars that work. Actually, in Eugene just finding covered cars at all is a bit of a challenge. But hopefully this one will present a bit of a challenge.
The Second Well Wrapped Car – What Is It?
– Posted on April 13, 2011
I’m thinking early Fox body Mustang/Capri. Just to be different I’ll say 1979 Capri, but I’m not very sure. Not even a clue on the wheels to go on this time. Does the cover make the car moss syndrome better or worse?
1984 Celica GTS liftback
Could this be the elusive Mercury LN7? Or a Ford EXP.
’84 Thunderbird…
Plymouth Turismo TC3
Series 3 Alfa Romeo Spider.
Note – pointy but rounded nose, small and upright passenger area that is only 2 seats, the rear spoiler with the bumper beyond that.
My question – what is the fiberglass-looking truck bed to the left with the GM tail lights?
Looks like a utility bed, they make them with a lower sides and OE-style taillights.
This guy has a number of GMs, so I’ll guess a Fiero.
It’s one of those Econoline-based chassis conversions with an extended cab and “bed”, designed specifically for 5th wheel trailering. I though I had a shot of it from before, but I’m starting to have a real management problem with my thousands of shots, especially the more obscure ones. I’ll take some next time I walk by.
I’m gonna agree with your guess of Alfa Romeo Spyder. The lines of the top are right (rising upwards towards the rear), and the position of the outside mirror is consistent with that era (modern designs typically have the mirror further forward). The headlight position, spoiler and bumper extensions also look right.
@DeadinSideInc:Congratulations!
Sweeeeet. A very distinctive and alluring shape!
Thanks for the info on the 5th wheel half van thing. I thought it was but wasn’t too sure. I wonder what happened to those as a ‘species’. Prevalent throughout the 80s I haven’t seen one from the early 90s or newer. A victim of the fully-appointed quad-cab 250/0 series truck?
Subaru XT?
The small roof means it must be a two-seater — and a big two-seater at that, which narrows it down a lot. It looks like there’s a big front bumper way out in front of the snout, like an early tacked-on 5 mph bumper, which would put it in the early ’70s. A Jensen Healey meets those criteria and might have that silhouette.
I mostly want to know why the owner is hiding the wheels behind those old yard signs.
To protect the rubber from the sun. That’s why RVers have those covers for their tires. The UVs makes them dry out and crack prematurely.
I was thinking Subaru XT as well.
I was so sure it was a 911 and was making excuses for the little up-flip at the back until I saw Alfa above. Yuuuuup!
Was this ever unwrapped?
Oops. Just re-scanned the comments and saw the answer.
