It was the ultimate Eldorado, by size, as the 1979 would be quite substantially downsized. But it’s not ultimately correct, in terms of one detail, which sharp-eyed readers will find, I’m sure.
If not, just enjoy the picture. I assume that’s the fog rolling in over the Santa Cruz Mountains, but maybe i’m not sharp-eyed enough to nail that down.
White lights in front bumper?
Agreed – it looks like they photographed a 77 with the white lenses in the front bumper instead of a 78 with the amber ones.
Yes, that’s what’s wrong. Looks like they used a shot with a ’77 and corrected the grille but not the directional signal lenses.
From ’77.
Does that woman not have legs?
Her right leg is plainly visible in light-colored pants, but part of her bent left one is obscured by the reflection of the mountain on the windshield.
That’s what I was trying to figure out. I enlarged it as much as I can below – and to me, the legs just look more like shadowy airbrushed shapes. But I can see this going either way.
Probably not what Paul was referring to, though.
I can see the woman’s legs perfect the guy that’s by her he is outside of the car
It’s probably a photo taken for the ’77 MY, but it looks like they could have done a little coloring, if they weren’t going to shell out for a full photo shoot.
I hope she isn’t wearing heels.
I wonder what the ratio of half/full/none vinyl roofs were in 70s Cadillacs. They didn’t do half vinyl sedans until the late 80s, but full coupes were rare after ’74, and bare even rarer.
I thought this model was only available in the tan/brown contrasting color scheme, inside and out.
That was an extra-special edition of the Biarritz.
That was the Eldorado Custom Biarritz Classic, which one might assume was actually the ultimate 1978 Eldorado.
Is it an older generation?
At first I thought there was no rear side marker, but I think it’s just a victim of “post-processing” as I can see a hint of it when I zoom in. And even taking into account even more artistic retouching, I don’t think those are the SC Mountains, though I suppose it could be looking east with the Santa Clara Valley in the background and the Diablo Range beyond that. I think it’s intended to look exotic and European … maybe the Tatra’s or Alpes Maritime.
If it was looking east, the fog wouldn’t be rolling in over the peaks like that. It always rolls in from the west. But then if you lived in SC, you might not have noticed that so much. From our house in Los Gatos, I could see it sneaking in like that from the west. When it’s warm and clear in the east side, it just sat on topof the mountains like a cap.
But it may well be from somewhere totally different.
From my perspective the only way that picture might work, given that ridge line in the upper left corner, is if you are looking southwest from somewhere along 280 between Woodside and Los Altos Hills.
My first thought was no rear side marker light too. Still think something looks funny about that whole area where the quarter meets the bumper
The people in it are 35 years too young.
Lol. They “borrowed” it from her Dad.
I wrote many dumb jokes here but I decided to not keep them.
You’re welcome, world.
Fixed rear glass, what else? I mean, it’s a CADILLAC for goodness sake, it should have that feature.
It’s out of gas and the guy is pointing to where the gas station is.
The vertical front bumper filler panels haven’t disintegrated.
I think we have evidence here that Paul has a secret collection of ’70s Eldorados stashed in a barn on his new property.
And here I was thinking the gaffe was that this Ultimate Eldorado Biarritz couldn’t be THE ULTIMATE because pretty much every Biarritz I remember seeing had some kind of stainless steel panel on the front part of the roof. To me, this looks like a ” regular ” Eldorado with a vinyl half roof and a sunroof over the front seat passengers…or is that a glass moonroof?
The stainless roof panel was on the ’79-’85 Biarritz. The ’75-78s just had the under-window/hood brushed chrome trim and swollen landau roof (and tufted pillow seats).
Also, I believe these came with the 425 V8 used on the rear drive De Villes starting in 1977.
No more 500 cubic inches.
At least this couple is not in a canoe.
I had the El Dorado Biarritz 78 back in 82 ,I believe it doesn’t come with a sunroof..and yes I was like early 30s.
I had this one 78 El Dorado Biarritz,I think they don’t come with a sunroof…I was like 33 around 82…Nice car…19ft. long.. 😂
The problem is: he’s letting her stand on the leather seats.
With her heels on
My “Wild Guess”- You had to choose – Sunroof OR Vinyl Landau Top – BUT, YOU COULDN’T HAVE BOTH. (As I said, it’s a “wild guess”.)
The “ultimate” Biarritz for 1978 was a two-tone Demitasse Brown over Arizona Beige with two-tone matching brown leather. I believe it was called “The Heritage Edition” option on the window sticker.
Love the eldorado my favorite Cadillac style, I have a 1975 eldorado convertible I cannot stop anywhere in it without people walking up to check it out or offer to buy it. Just a sexy car
