Here’s another vintage custom Cadillac, and its proportions are not all that unlike the Grandeur we saw yesterday. The obvious difference is that it’s in reverse; the long hood is now the long bed.
Looks less than well proportioned either way.
Who needs a tailgate anyway?
Looks like somebody’s idea of a Flower Car gone bad….Has to be the ugliest variant so far.
I seem to recall that the early versions of the 440-T4 transmissions in these were prone to failure, particularly in the Cadillacs, so what could possibly go wrong with using this powertrain in a truck/ute that might be expected to haul heavy loads?
I see the target demographic being rich ranchers & oilmen hauling their wives to the Crossroads Saloon on Sunday afternoon; that’s likely the only use they would get. Good point though, about weight limits, were these full frame or unibody? I’m embarrassed to admit that I don’t know. The rabbit pickup with its’ cargo issues comes to mind.
Yuk!
I never heard of or saw one like that. I had a 1979 Lincoln Mark V conversion that was called a St.Tropez. I sold it about 2 years ago, I probably should have kept it because of its rarity.
If this were posted yesterday, you’d have suckered me in.
I like the body color inside the wheels–a throwback to ’62. The chrome spear looks like it’s off the previous generation Eldo Biarritz.
It’s funny they used the new FWD Deville that everyone complained about being too bland.
Thank god it has the Continental spare, right?
For Ed: the search for B McCall rendered (sic) this find, at Hemmings: Who knew Brooks Stevens anticipated Bruce M in the satirical-rendering field ?

Being an Aussie and used to seeing utes, the rest of this doesn’t look too bad, apart from the Continental spare (on a Caddy!). The wheelbase is a bit longer than usual, but there are some LWB Commodore utes around with similar proportions. Used to be one in my town; haven’t seen it for a while.
But that front end with the body-coloured grille surround looks like someone got their genres crossed and this prestige pickup got the “Sport” grille option! Absolutely hideous. Puts me in mind of this (with apologies to Yohai)…..
So…with a chrome grill surround it would look good??
