Hankering for a gen1 Bronco, but can’t be bothered to do (or have done) some upgrades? No problem; for a mere $150k, Icon, that re-maker of a couple of other classic 4x4s (Jeep and Toyota FJ) now has added the Bronco to its stable of rich-boy toys. But unlike the the Jeep and FJ, which Icon builds from the ground up, the Icon Bronco needs a donor, and Icon is buying up clean old ones to be transformed. I wonder if the unmolested CC Bronco is still there…

Meh… I’d rather have a refurbished Grand Wagoneer for much cheaper.

Although I’ve often wondered about the phsycology of wanting to get a turnkey version of those old vehicles. For me half the fun would be restoring it myself. But then I must clearly be in the minority.
After completing a few “restorations” and a few years of constantly wrenching on elderly beaters I can see the appeal of a turnkey. The price range of Ikon’s vehicles is aimed more at the more money than brains club members though..
You got that right. The CJ3B caught my eye, until I saw the price for a used (repossessed?) one in inventory. You can buy a whole lotta road-ready Jeeps for $90,000.
Still and all, the FJ3B is a pretty slick package. If I win the Lotto…
Very nice. I don’t have much use for a truck in my daily life, but I would love a Grand Wagoneer.
You can buy an MG B body shell from British Motor Heritage for around £6000. Kinda makes the recent announcement about the ’64-1/2 Mustang sound overpriced.
If you consider what kind of machine you are getting for your money, I think the wagonmaster.com folks are offering a pretty good deal. I looked at the cheapest GW they list (a 85 red/wood panels), and it’s a very nice vehicle.
Of course, I’d like mine with a LS4 and a 6L85, but I’m OK with the 360 AMC motor, too.
I’ve seen the ICON trucks before and they’re fantastic, but I don’t have the kind of bux for those things.
I’ve been on both of those sites, they really know their stuff. I’d have to go with a Grand Wagoneer. Definitely my favorite SUV.
I’ll take the FJ44
