We haven’t checked in with casey/artandcolour for a while. Although he’s posted a number of new chops, this one caught my eye, what with all our recent talk about pickups and “utes”. Casey points out that thanks to the coupe’s rear window design, Lincoln could have created a vehicle that offered the world’s first extended cab plus plenty of room for hauling…but then, in 1958, just what would folks haul in a Lincoln Ranchero? Water skis? Well, whatever. Anyway, it sure is fun to imagine tooling around in one.
What If: 1958 Lincoln Premiere Pickup – The Pinkwood
– Posted on September 14, 2012
This was the first thing to come to my mind. The Lincoln pickup shouldn’t carry anything in the bed, but must tow a boat like this one.
Perfect! In matching colors, though.
I love it, where can I buy one?
I like this rendering. First thing that came to mind, at least for that era, would’ve been a flower car. Even if, back then, if, let’s say, there would’ve been a market niche for a luxury type of upmarket Ranchero, this would’ve fit in, but, knowing how Ford was at the times, the failure of the Edsel and $$$ spent on it and trying to move Mercury upmarket, these reasons and Robert McNamara, probably wouldn’t have developed something like this after all.
Brilliant! Auric Goldfinger knew just what to carry in a Ranchero’s bed. A Lincoln would have been more to his taste for those occasional trips to the recycle yard.
Which brings us back to the rear springs on pickup trucks thread from the Model A discussion yesterday. Gee – if a Falcon Ranchero could carry a crushed 5,000 pound Lincoln in the back, it MUST be tougher than a Model A. 🙂
5,000 pounds plus passengers.
omg, I LOVE the name Pinkwood with its retro/future nod to the Blackwood! It’s absolutely perfect. I wish I had thought of it, lol. thanks!
Never seen one of these but do remember a buick or olds that was el caminoized in Porter Texas about 20 years ago. Similar professional rendition but I had a cousin with a real crush on it. I was afraid it was going to be a fatal attraction sort of thing.
Here is a Bentley that was converted into a ute.
I think for a vehicle like this you would haul your yachting or equestrian gear.
Pink flower car (the car, not necessarily the flowers). I see it with the Continental reverse-slant rear window instead of the window from a Lincoln. Imagine what a matching hearse would look like.
I love doing “what if”/Phantom photoshops.
What if Lincoln didn’t wait 9 long years to do another real Mark? What would a 64 Mark III look like?
Somewhere I did a 58 Lincoln Navigator…..
…Oh…Gawd.
I can be accused of questionable taste. I liked the looks of my ’79 Ranchero. But… this? As a sedan these were as nastily ugly as any Mopar from ’60-’62. Why not put a continental kit on the back of this useless boat anchor and see how absolutely long we can make the back end?
