About 1/3 of the way back behind the prow, underneath a modern black hatchback that is parked on a sloped ramp, does that red car display a vintage (‘40’s or 50’s) profile? And immediately behind it, is that an old Mini parked facing the camera? Not really a CC, but behind the Mini (?) is that a Kia Soul? A few interlopers mingling with the John Deeres.
The car on the rear deck is almost 100% the captain’s or similar, many barges carry cars which can be used whenever it is in a port (very useful if you want to visit the place).
Here in Vienna we get such ferries too, but the load is mostly Suzukis on their way from the Hungarian factory to West European dealerships.
I’d say the ship in the picture started its journey in Mannheim (Rhein-Neckar region), the hometown of a large JD tractor plant.
At my former job, my office was nearby a railway track. I remember the endlessly long trains, fully loaded with new Volkswagens of all sorts and sizes.
Looks like the Danube River. We cruised there last year, and were well above the surrounding terrain for many miles while traveling in a canal.
I was somewhere near this location:
But the Danube is reputed to be blue, so shouldn’t those be a batch of New Hollands?
That’s the most interesting vehicle transport picture I’ve ever seen. Makes ordinary car-carrier trucks seem downright dull.
“What did the tractor say while riding on the river barge?”
“WHEEEE!!”
That looks like a nice lot of JDs, JD! 😉
An aquatic semi!
The Dutch are the champion inventors of transportation methods nowadays.
I think it’s the Terra 2 ro-ro ship based on a small google search.

Some other ro-ro ships with John Deere tractors:

That binnenvaart-website is great!
They run like a Deere, but can they swim?
The Gators can, probably, although I don’t see them aboard.
Oh, Deere!

Interesting shot, it looks like the tug is pushing that barge on dry land.
I’m getting a vision of a livestock transport full of the tractors from one of the Cars movies
