So many people thought the same, but honestly, in terms of fit/finish and assembly quality it’s one of the very best cars that Nissan produced in the last 20 years. In my humble opinion.
Ah yes, a truly bland ricemobile that probably does everything expected of it just about perfectly.. but ..but we want ‘character’ …no character or soul ..like a mindlessly cloned grey automotive zombie ..somehow this appeals to the masses ..beats me 🙁
Not to nitpick, but… this car was aimed mainly at the European market and emphatically did not appeal to the masses, so they cancelled it after a few years, despite pretty good press reviews.
In fact it was so unpopular they stopped offering a car in this category.
I admit it’s a boring car, but I borrowed my dad’s then-new Primera in 2004 and a female friend ooh’d and aah’d at the interior, saying it was “like a spaceship”!
It certainly made me giggle parking behind it! I must admit I find the styling of these P12 Primeras (sedan, hatch and wagon) quite distinctive and like them very much – albeit not in silver! The hatch even has mini tailfins created by the taillights peaking above the hatch – and who doesn’t love tailfins!!
They seem quite popular here it has generic Nissan styling or lack thereof but between seeing this post this morning and now Ive seen 5 on one trip into Napier and back so lots of people seem to have bought them there are Nissans of all models on the roads around here I’m driving a Y10 from 93 myself.
My former employer used P11 Primera wagons as company cars until the first Mazda6 wagon came out in ’02, then they switched to the 6 and never looked back. Their Primeras were all manual trans, so some folks such as myself may have been able to enjoy quite enthusiastic driving at times. Allegedly of course! But the 6 wagon was in another realm totally – I had ’05 and ’08 wagons, my sister now has my ’05. Even today IMHO the 6 is the best wagon around.
Reminds me of something I was going to do to a ’91 Grand Marquis beater I once had, my plan was to go to the boneyard and scavenge some “Mercury” and “Grand Marquis” nameplates so I could spell out “Grand Marquis De Sade” on the decklid. Never got around to doing it and ended up selling the car.
I do like the greenhouse styling, and even more so, that hatch. Looks forgettable forward of the B-pillar though. Another one we didn’t get in the USA, though IIRC the earlier generation Primera may have been the basis for the Infiniti G20?
Never liked this generation Primera. Never mind the odd styling. Putting the dials in the centre of the dash is a turn-off.

Looks like car created for a Grand Theft Auto game.

I’ve never seen one these before. You learn something new every day!

Not very impressed with Nissan styling of late, but you picked the perfect angle for that wagon. That is a really nice shape.
That hatch, OTOH, gives me the sweats. Rear window is very 1996 Taurus Ghia-like.

I like midsize wagons and won’t buy a German car, so I wish they sold these here. Although a Mazda6 wagon would be far preferable.

Yes indeed, the P10 Primera was indeed the G20 by another name. This is a P12 Primera, there was also a P11 in between.
