That is true folk art, nicely done. I put an oak dash panel into my Peugeot 504 wagon. It was a nice upgrade from the plastic and brought the dash to life. Sourced it in a junkyard!
Remarkable work, between the sheer scale of the wood paneling, the amount of carving, and even the inclusion of a video screen in the center of the dash. Fascinating as-is, and if this Volga is in mid-project, then I expect that it will be an interesting combination of 20th Century car / old-fashioned trim / 21st Century electronics. I would like to learn more about it.
This is a real aesthetic curveball, for I’m used to interior wood trim in British mode. Is that a TV in the middle of the dash? At least he doesn’t need to worry about factory electronics parts.
To all those who continually deride Detroit for using plastiwood rather than their 1/64″ wood veneer covered with 1/8″ of clear lacquer in their Lexus or Mercedes Benz, THIS IS REAL WOOD! lol
Also, to all those who call me a hater when I don’t rEsPek their kryloned dash pieces in their riced out Civic as custom work, THIS is custom, spray painted dash inserts is vandalism!
I might be wrong, but it looks like the interior of a custom car that a Russian Western {ostern-Red Western} film star would drive.I can also picture a horn from a cow or a bull on the hood and a tooled leather interior.
Actually, the craftsmanship here is truly impressive. Now, this just needs some dark red leather for the seats and some matching wool carpet for the floors. With that it wouldn’t even need to run, it could just be a destination spot for cigars and brandy after dinner. 🙂
Impressive work. The rest of the car looks too utilitarian and clashes with the bespoke wood interior though. Needs brass accents, deep reds and I have no idea what to do with the exterior. In a word, “steampunk”.
Beautiful. I’ve wondered why nobody uses wood for the crash pad on the dash. Seems like a plywood with ‘slippery’ layers could have an appropriate level of elasticity, and beauty at the same time.

Nice work. Someone that has a lot of time on their hands, but isn’t that what hobbies are for?

It was for sale, last time I’ve heard.
Impressive! I’ve seen wood trim on a car, but this is different.
This wood looks worse than plastic!

This got Georgia on my mind.

If Cadillac had a Russian Division in the 70s?

Does it also have a wood burning stove ?
I’ve seen that Volvo before, hilarious!
That’s great! Terrifying, but great.
I don’t know what’s worst… That pollution spewing from that clunker or that guy’s awful haircut.
Add a couple neck-bolts, and he’ll look like Frankenstein. 😀
With that sort of skill I think I would focus on my house not my car. Good job but I wouldn’t spend the time.

I wonder how much weight it added to each door?
I’m gonna guess this added 100 percent to the weight of the doors! Hope the hinges can handle it !
I’m hearing the usual 70’s era Monte’ Carlo door hinge noises in my head right now…
The only thing I like here is the speaker grille. Makes me want to repurpose an ornate brass home HVAC vent cover as a speaker grille.

First time I have seen the words “plywood” and “beauty” used together. 🙂
I wood love to see this in person. (Sorry)
I chuckled at the first picture but as I looked at the other photos I soon began to appreciate the talent it took to do all this work.
Well done!
Wow. Truly one of a kind! Certainly took a lot of skill…and it does have a bit of the “Old West” look, but would that be “Old East” in Russia?
Wow. Great find.
Needs some brass accents to brighten it up and an eight spoke wooden steering wheel.
I think I’ll stick with “I can’t believe it’s not wood”
Would it be a bad April Fool’s Day prank, to leave an open bottle of termites in there? Lol
I think this is a Gaz 24

Carved wood interior and side airbags. Eclectic style.
+1. I see photo 2 shows the original (?) seats which presumably are non-side-airbag.
It’s just the good taste all Georgians possess.
No TV & long winter nights?
Beautiful, but holy splinters if you were unlucky enough to be T-boned.
