Well, well, well. My third car in the US was a 1984 Buick Century. It had a 2.5 litre V6 (or was it 3.0?) and red velour and red everything inside. Both front doors had huge rust spots, as big as dinner plates. The car had bench seats at the front. The power windows were operated by a set of buttons mounted on the door which confounded any sense of mapping of buttons to the relevant windows. I recall a top speed of 110 but it never got past ninety. A strip speedo, too. It turned out to be a likeable car. It didn’t break down. It didn’t consume much petrol. The boot was big. The dreadful, dreadful driver’s seat required a pillow for lumbar support. I miss it and would have another. Last seen: 1994.
