That red Tempo GL was my family’s, then my hand-me-down first car. It was a hateful beast, if attractively styled, though I’ll still never know how one of my siblings got that thing up to 85 mph.
Mom totalled our first one against a tree within two days of our ownership. It should have been a sign.
I drove a hand me down blue 86 Tempo coupe, with the 5 speed manual. Seemed to have reasonable acceleration for an “economy” car of its time. Can’t remember if i ever got the speedo up to the 85 mph limit though.
Fast forward a few years and my wife came into our marriage with a 90 tempo sedan, with i believe a 3 speed auto. That thing was such a dog, i dont think i’d have the patience required to wait around and see if it got up to 85! Maybe if dropped from the back of a 747 🙂
My neighbor had a red Tempo, AWD and I believe it was a diesel. I had a Gray 88 2dr, 4cyl 3spd trans. It was adequate. Having driven a Chevette and 2 Pintos before hand it wasn’t as bad as those were, much better in the snow. Although I had chains for the Pintos when the snow was really bad.
A truckload of Ford Deadly sins. We had many of these at our prior dealership and they were always coming back within a month for something suspension related, running behavior issues, those god awful motorized belts and models equipped with air bags were plagued with sensors coming on and other wonderful electrical issues.
This looks like the search results I get when I hunt for anything in any color besides white, black, or silver.

Trucker: Alright I have a load of nine Ford Tempos for mall security in the tri-county area and one for some dork.
I was thinking the red on was for the manager/supervisor.
“Da red wunz go fasta!”
Exactly what I was thinking Matt! Or load for Dollar Rent-A-Car!
I have a Fresh Cherries Tempo that looks like that red one, pretty sure it’s the only diecast or model ever made of a Tempo.
I would rather have the Freightliner than all those Tempos.

Having owned a 1994 Tempo with the 3.0 V-6, I enjoyed it as a commuter car. With the Taurus engine, it had no problems keeping up with traffic!
