You could be forgiven for not recognizing the car underneath this rolling shed as a pre-’78 Colt Wagon. Enough has been covered up–including the chrome trim pieces–that in this case, our short attention spans aren’t to blame. Note the fender mounted mirrors.
It seems that the desire for a bigger, taller Colt was shared by more than one person, as you’ll see in our upcoming chapters of the continuing Colt saga.
Whoa!!! Is this what Ted Kaczynski used for trips to the Post Office?
Pretty amazing rig.
Love it! This looks like a much cruder version of a similar conversion I saw done on a 90-91 Accord (former) coupe several years ago at Legs Inn in Cross Village, MI. I wish I had taken a picture of it, it had what appeared to be wood siding on it with windows and a fairly normal (for what it was) looking roof, maybe fiberglass? It was very well done I thought, but I couldn’t help but wonder why they didn’t just get an Accord wagon. The “conversion” roof was taller than stock height though, so maybe they were carrying something that wouldn’t have fit in the wagon.
Holly Molly! That there is the modren’ car of the 21ST Century Beverly Hillbillies! Kidding, but seriously? Someone drives that? Oh wait. They do. Look at the Oregon license plate!

I thought it was something from BL that had only just been discovered
Yes, the Morris Marina Tudor Edition.
Well, the brochure did mention a roomy passenger cabin…
Yessir, always insist on a car with full frame construction. 🙂
Jim, it’s a rare example of frame-on-body construction.
Wow, a country-bred colt. I’m interested, anyone got contact details?
That’s some high quality redneck workmanship there.
Looks like something out of the third world. West Africa’s bush taxis were the first thing that came to my mind.
I have a couple kids I need to send this picture too. They thought the headache racks and shells I made for my farm trucks were pretty bad. I disagree of course. This might change their tune.
heh, I walk by this car all the time and I’ve always thought it was a Subaru.
I think Red Green would have approved of this conversion.
That’s right, ” If the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy”.
What a failure. Everybody knows CUVs don’t need cargo space.
There is a sawzall ute in this S.O.T.S. clip that is WAITING for this sort of addition…
