It’s crept up on us this year. October 12-14. We’re meeting up Friday morning then having lunch in Lygon Street. This year they’re featuring The Last Days of the American Supercar. Looks like its going to show this blue Superbird AVL caught in Melbourne’s backstreets.
The main theme appears to be an Art Deco one. There’s also Cadillacs, microcars, Harley Panhead and Triumph Bonneville, and 90 years of the Australian Grand Prix.
I’m meeting John H in front of the ticket booth at 10am Friday morning. If you’re joining us, I’ll be in my usual blue all over. If everyone happens to be rocking the denim tuxedo, I’ll be the guy with the red Converse sneakers.
At 1pm, we’re catching up with a few others for lunch here. If you miss us inside, see you there.
I’m too scared to commit to flights anymore since the Missouri Meetup fiasco so unfortunately can’t make it. Y’all have a great time though and I look forward to reading about it!
PS: that Superbird looks fantastic in, what is that, STP blue?
Just rent another Corolla. Isn’t there a ferry for that last stretch?
The WWE is in town this weekend, and a plane carrying some of the wrestlers a few days ago was diverted to Brisbane for a medical emergency. However I’m confident that they didn’t have to resort to Corollas to cover the 1100+ miles to Melbourne (2.5-3 hr flight)
Hmm, denim tuxedo hey? Will see what I can come up with…
Nice!
A very nice looking Superbird.
Good color combo, too.
Coming from that era, I like vinyl tops, chrome bumpers, and the slightest bit of shiny trim.
Today’s American retro muscle cars (and most all in general) having one color cover the entire car are SO blase.
Those I’ve ridden in had the stiffest suspension of any cars of the time.
A car not for the faint of heart, or those with hemorrhoids!
LOL
Cheers to the both of you.
I know I am not alone when I say I look forward to reading all about it.
I’m with JPC – sounds like a great trip…there are non-stop flights from the UK to Aus now…..so tempting……
Well, having said in a previous thread that my work arrangements allow me to come along to the CC Motorclassica meet this year, I now have to attend a building dispute conciliation on Friday. Aaaaargh! It’s in the city and may be over quickly (I wish!), but if it isn’t I’ll be a no-show again this year. Sorry, Don and all. I’ll try again next year.
Bummer Ghillie. Maybe see you at lunch at least.
I’ll have to be there in spirit this year…
Recovering from Race Week at the new location at present – should probably write up something about the exhibition that I just put together for the 50th anniversary of the 1968 race!
Have fun at Motorclassica kids!
I’m going to hold you to that Brad.
Same here
Oh, buggery bollocks, I can’t, not even over the weekend. The Gods don’t like me.
But luckily, I don’t believe in any of ’em, so I’ll be first to line up with you next year.
You lucky bastards.
Enjoy!
And be sure to do your CC duty, and report. Thoroughly.
