I keep seeing comments about losing comments, or being told that they’re commenting too quickly. I don’t know what’s going on, and I’m not a techie. But it’s never once happened to me. But then I always log in, and stay logged in.
To those that are experiencing this, are you registered with CC and logged in?
There’s no direct benefit to CC whether or not you’re registered and logged in. But if it keeps happening to you and you’re not registered/logged in, maybe it’s worth trying that.
I just tried commenting on 1950 GM body sharing after logging in and it still didn’t work.
Well, that answers that question. We’re going to need some tech help….
I get comments eaten while at work, maybe 25% of the time. No problems from home.
Are you logged in at work when the comments got eaten?
Not to confuse things but every time I’ve lost a comment its been when I’m not logged in, once I log in its always worked for me.
Same here.
If I’m using my Android (which I currently am), there’s a fair chance the comment will not post. Less likely if I’m on the laptop not logged in; no issue if I’m logged in.
Edit: i typed this and it didn’t post.
I haven’t been having the issue for days, so I assumed it was fixed, but I was definitely logged in the times it happened and am registered.
I am registered, but have very rarely logged in during the last 4 years. Only in the past 2 to three months have I clicked the ‘Post Comment’ button and immediately get the ‘posting too quickly’ message. It happens only occasionally, no apparent pattern. Never any issues previously. I copy all messages to the ‘clipboard’ to back them up before posting.
Since the last notification that there were problems with the spam filters, I have checked periodically and found comments in the trash folder. None of them has been in the Pending folder or in the Spam folder. I have manually moved a few of those trashed comments back into approved status, but am sure I have missed some.
If the plan is for the spam filters to put things into a pending folder (or even into the spam folder) it is not working because they are all going straight to the trash.
My previously written comment that got eaten has now appeared under the correct article. My thanks to whoever fixed that.
I fixed that for you. It was flagged as spam for some reason and put in the trash. I saw you attempted to post it many times but it didn’t like that comment for some reason. The same thing happened to Daniel Stern recently.
I have comments eaten when logged in and when not logged in. I tried half a dozen times to comment on the Mercury Sable article the other day and no luck. I will try to ensue I log in to comment and monitor results.
I don’t know why, but all of these comments somehow remind me of this commercial!

My problem is I never get a email on followup comments. I tried to register and no email (after 10 minutes) I’ve had people reject my gmail account because they think it’s spam or something I don’t know. So I comment, keep a link in the tool bar to check back after a day or so.
I tried to register probably over a year ago now, and never got an email confirming my registration. Paul posted several month ago that there was a fix for this — try to log and and pretend you forgot your password, which will generate an email that will allow you to log in. But I just never bothered. Maybe I should.
And I just got the “posting too quickly” error while attempting to post the above comment. I am not logged in.
I tried that thinking I had previously registered, but it didn’t recognize my email.
Even though I have an account I usually comment not logged in. The reason is that once logged in I seem to be auto logged out after a couple days, and logging in is a fairly high-friction matter since I’m a contributor, as logging in takes me to the Dashboard page and not back to the post I want to comment on. By the time I’ve gotten back to the post I want to comment on I’ve forgotten half of what I want to say. So if I find myself logged out I just comment using my name and email right there on the comment form.
I always open two windows next to each other in my web browser (usually Chrome). First one I log in on and go to the comments page from the dashboard. In the second window I just go to the site. It then apparently knows that I am logged in.
I then have the choice and can toggle back and forth between following comments on the dashboard page or from the “front end” of the site, depending on whether I want to skim through a variety or follow a particular thread.
I’ve noticed this too, that even though you select “keep me logged in”, after a couple of days, it seems to have loggged you out. This happens to me at work using a PC and Chrome, and also at home (like now) with an iPad using Safari.
When I realize I am not logged in after typing a comment, sometimes I use the email & user name, but my preferred method is to cut the comment to the clipboard, and then go log in, and then pop back and paste it to post.
I have never gotten the “posting to quickly” message, or the magically disappearing comment, however I did have a weird one the other day… I tried to fix a typo, and was told that I did not have permission to edit my own comment. But this happens rarely. Sometimes it says the edit function is not available or something to that effect.
One thing I’ve seen is where it hangs up where seemingly nothing happened, only to hit the post comment button again to have it say something like “uh oh, looks like you already said that”… of course this is probably how it’s supposed to function to avoid repeat comments.
Those are my observations FWIW. Thanks! ~ Rick
I haven’t been logged in; didn’t even realize logging in was a thing here. Obviously I’m not a techie either….
First thing I do is to log in before I start to read anything since I don’t know if I’ll make a comment or not. So I can’t comment on losing posts by not logging in. I only use a Windows computer and nothing else. The only problem I have had in the past was maybe several months ago when clicking the link to read an article simply got me a white page saying “error.”
I’m registered and logged in. Just tried to comment on the VW/Ev story and got “commenting too fast”. Reposted and it went ok.
I tried to respond to the post about what kids are driving around where I live with an uploaded picture. I got the “you’re trying to post too quickly” screen. After about five tries, it finally posted.
That has happened to me a few times but I just figured it was a glitch. Software, eh?
I lost a comment yesterday. I think I was logged in.
It’s happened before, just a few times, and I never noticed whether I was logged in or not. I’m set up to automatically log in, but it doesn’t always work.
I submitted a comment on the “What do young people drive” thread, was logged in, and it never posted. From home, AT&T DSL, iPad with iOS Safari.
I tried to post three times on the Corvair picture earlier this week and they went to the comment trash…I was logged in.
I don’t know if this assists, but I have never been able to comment without logging in. (I seem to get auto-unlogged-in after about 24-48 hours). And even when all nice ‘n’ logged-in ‘n’ comfy and having typed away away at my god-given pace (wherein He clearly mistook me for a snail), I press “post”, and the comment f*cks right off, never to be seen again. Sometimes, I do it again. But recently, after four goes, it was ME who f*cked right off.
So, yes, I’m logged in to comment, but still can’t sometimes.
Yeah, I’ve cut down on attempting to post by about half. With only a 50/50 chance of it going through, it’s just not worth the aggravation.
I just tried to post on the Suburban thread and it kept marking my comment as spam. It had some issue with a paragraph I wrote on the Vortec fuel injection being poorly engineered. Maybe the spam filter is designed by a former GM fuel injection engineer. 😉
If one of the admins sees this, can you please add my comment back to the thread.
Done.
