The Mustang on the right has a two-way radio antenna on each rear fender and one on the roof. The Mustang on the left has on the roof-top antenna. I wonder why the difference.
Both, of course, have “regular” antennas on the right front fender probably for AM radios tuned only to WBAP stations. 🙂
This image may have been taken in late 1967 but the Mustangs are 1968 models witnessed by the side marker lights on each.
Multiple antennas-one each for a)the two-way for the station b) a mobile telephone
c) a police monitor of some type, likely not a scanner type yet, since Electra corp launched those sometime in 1968.
More than 50 years after this, and about 40 years after the police 5.0 Fox Mustangs debuted, MachE Mustang EV’s are serving as rapid response vehicles in the UK. I don’t know if there are any serving similar duty here in the US. By the way, our local ABC and NBC affiliates are the same station though on different channels with different call letters. They share the same local news broadcasts.
Unless they have 6 cylinders.
unless that 6 was mated to a four speed
Odd that WBAP seems to be both an NBC affiliate and an ABC affiliate depending on where you tune on the AM dial.
WBAP has an interesting broadcast history, as it was also a TV station for a bit.

Do the Doublemint Twins work there? 😉
Here’s an image of one of the WBAP News Mustangs in action:

Kind of like a modern version of the Pony Express?
I never worked in a station that had a cool “news cruiser.”
Although at one Edmonton station we gave away a restored MG sports car. The station played golden oldies and we went by “MG1200 Radio!”
Nice .
I’d rock one with an inline 6 banger .

Two “1968 Stangs”. Wonder what color?
