We generally devote much time here at CC to the ordinary cars that were in our lives. But from time to time, dream cars must also be attended to, which leads us to today’s Corvette gallery. An American car that makes me think of nothing but weekend driving. And being the weekend, let’s take a look at some ‘Vettes in the past, more or less as they were back in the day.
As we know, no Corvette ever had a normal life, as these period photos will show. There are a few photos that clearly capture them on special occasions, appropriate missions for a special car. And some are obviously in a second or third life, having turned into someone’s used-car dream. But most are just there being special, and making folks’ lives special just by their mere presence.
The photos feature mostly C1s and C2s; most with owners and admirers, though a few stand on their own.
I bet that ’69(ish) with the fender flares was probably replaced with a Kingswood wagon shortly after this photo was taken!
Yeah, and I’ll bet that Dad was not very happy about that.
Photographing the kid in his stroller parked in front of your Vette (being sure to show the whole car) is a pretty solidly passive aggressive move.
But nothing that a few years of psychotherapy for the kid won’t take care of.
A Vette in snow and others on unpaved roads. You would need a 4×4 to do that today. I wonder if any of these have survived and been sold as “never seen rain”
Car and Driver drove the Alaska Highway in a lightly modified C3 circa 1980. I guess this was a forerunner of the “Safari” style
Great article. These were beauties!
The front end of the original ’53-’55 has always been my favorite C1.
Agreed. Especially the ’58-on quad headlights and three hole grille did it no favors.
That one with the two sitting on the back looks like maybe it’s “never seen rain” since the wiper arms have been removed lol
The 62s with their lack of trim around the coves and bare grilles look so naked. They were shedding chrome and details since the overwrought 58s but they definitely went a little too far by 1962.
I too like the looks & style of the very first generation and the 235 C.I.D. i6 engine wouldn’t be a problem for me as ‘Sports Cars’ weren’t meant to be Race Cars .
Some of these pix take me way back .

This post reinforces the fact that C2s are my favourite Corvette, the first one in white is sublime
For sure. Your comment made me go back and look again, that appears to be a split window. Imagine when they were just cars, I can’t even remember the last time I saw one in the wild.
Nowadays you will absolutely never see a 62 Corvette with a Cragar mag on the front and a bare steelie on the back driven by a guy under 30. It’s a good thing it was captured on film then.
The green one is truly unique.
I think its an oregon plate.
Fittingly painted.
The white, “early rendition”, one with the lady in the blue dress; awesome pic!
Lots a good looking rides here.
Just love these vintage snapshots. Thank you Curbside Classics!
My Aunt Susan in my Uncle Fred’s Corvette visiting the Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC, circa 1960.
Horrible pic, but it is all I have to remember my 1966 triple black couple. 427 390hp factory side pipes, purchased in 1969 for $2700. Crager mags and Mickey Thompson tires. It was a summer to remember. Traded it in for a new VW Beetle and three hundred dollars at the end of summer.

Try reducing the file size. If it’s 1,200 pixels or less (in the bigger dimension), it should load here.
Last try
It was MOM’s car!
Keep the 66 black vette..looks good..
The pic of the hotshot with the two beauties in back caught my eye. I would bet anything the gal in red languishing against the tree is his girlfriend…😂
