Is it obvious that I love old snapshots? Every time I come across a hoard, I always post them here. So when Jon O’Grady posted these at the Cohort, I cannot resist sharing them. I’m just going to add his captions.
Bombardier in the arctic circa 1985
78 Civic. ” I Don t think I’m all that that happy with my ” invisible body repair I paid for”.
The early mountain bikes with the bull moose bars in the back of that Courier really
add to the way back when atmosphere.
Great images. Ad hoc owner rust repair, as seen on the Civic, an all too common 1970s sight in road salted regions. I hope that hood panel fit on the Royal Monaco didn’t come from the factory.
Joseph-Armand Bombardier generally credited with inventing the snowmobile, brought us the B12. A Canadian icon.
Love those snapshots! Thanks for posting. I have to believe that there are great stories that lie behind them…particularly “1977 Dodge Monaco” and “1980 Toyota 4X4”.
I’m guessing that Jon is the fellow who shows up as a kid with the Fiat 128 (love that! how in the world did it manage to last that long in Canada…seems like at least 10 years…without rusting entirely away??) as well as in many of the pictures over the years. There’s got to be a COAL in there somewhere 🙂
Jon’s also done a very good job with the scanning of the old negative film prints (I don’t believe those are Kodachromes, but I could be wrong about that). Good detail and color correction.
I like the longbed stepside GMC. Lots of lugs, so I’m guessing it’s a one ton. So very purposeful, and it makes me wonder if a stepside has fewer places to catch and keep road salt, so maybe they lasted longer?
Love the picture on the railroad bridge. I’m guessing that’s impossible today
It’s the Bellevue Trestle on the old Kettle Valley Railroad. Can be biked still but not driven.
I’ve been on a large scanning project and I am always glad when someone had the foresight to use a 35mm camera and always disappointed by those textured 110 pictures from the 1970s.
GMC is a C25 three quarter ton. Rusted as quick as either of the 128s.
The yellow Toyota, Honda Civic and the Mercury/ Ford / Jeep mash up in the CC Cohort are all good stories. Probably worthy of a COAL one day.
That 77 Monaco is a real brute!
I like the 52 Plymouth sitting out in the snow. Just looks peaceful.
