By the time I saw it coming the other way, grabbed my camera, fired it up and it was ready to shoot, I missed the shot. I almost pulled a U turn to follow it, as I’ve never seen one on the road here before. But odds are I’ll run into it one of these days again. So what was it?
Through The Windshield Outtake: The One That Got Away

I wish this was a regular CC Clue, because I think I have it nailed. It’s a Rambler/AMC Marlin. I used to walk past one of these on my way to the bus stop in 7th grade in 1974 or so. I loved it because it was just so… different? Wild but not 70s Caddy-style flamboyant?
66 AMC Marlin?
This is one advantage of film cameras: no lag turning it on and no lag when you press the shutter button. I miss fewer shots with my film cameras. But then there’s that pesky wait to get the film processed…
Spoken like a true retrogrouch. 😉
Definitely a Marlin. Which could have been called a Rambler or AMC depending on the year. This would be a 1965 or ’66. The ’67, while less “sporty”, was much more graceful as the roofline was more fluid due to the adoption of the Ambassador chassis instead of the Classic that this car shares a platform with.
The 67 was a nicer looker but I think it sold even worse
I will echo Jim Grey, as there are some advantages to obsolete tech. However, while I still own a film camera, I don’t carry it with me and would miss many more shots than I do now.
I have toyed with doing a piece on all of the ones that have gotten away. My BlackberryCam was much faster to get ready than my current DroidCam. I have missed several good shots because the stupid camera wasn’t fast enough coming out of the gate.
Maybe just a ’67 Rebel or Ambassador, not necessarily a Marlin….
It looks like a ’66 AMC Marlin.
2015 Dacia Sandero in right-hand drive.
That’s some good news right there!
If not a Marlin, definitely a 1965-66 Classic.
That reminds me, I need to do a Car Show Classic on the one I saw in Monmouth!
The Classic has a wrap-around tail light which this car doesn’t have.
That’s right; the Classic had different taillights. Marlin it is!
Only thing that’s not clear is whether it was Frost White or whether it was Apollo Yellow, washed out a bit in the sunlight/film quality…!!
Going with ’66, not ’65….
Nice.
